Jackson was a very aggresive fighter, I admire that, shows balls of steel, but can spell doom against a monstrous hitter like Jackson, Armstrong was the overall better fighter of the two and I wouldnt count him out, but Damn, Jackson might be the worst possible opponent for him.

    Jackson. Over Ron Lipton's objection.

Smoke if a tip top Carter shows up do you still have Jackson strait up or is it more of a who lands first? I value your opinion

I really think of it as more of a who lands first. Certainly, it could go the other way and Carter could catch Jackson first. I just really like and respect Jackson, and give him the slight nod. For several years almost all the top fighters avoided Jackson and waited until he got older and lost a step. His fight with the much bigger, stronger, younger Gerald McClellan was still a great battle and passing of the torch.

Cheers, brother. Yes, many fighters avoided the Hawk. Hopkins, Jones, and James Toney all held belts around the same time as Jackson. As did his old nemesis, Mike McCallum. Jackson had improved from the days of his loss to The Body Snatcher, and Julian wanted a chance at redemption. It is a pity the rematch was never made. Jackson also called out James Toney numerous times on national television, and I never heard a peep out of Toney. (And we all know how much James enjoys talking trash). Jones didn't stay long at middleweight, and, I think he would be too good, too fast, for Jackson. But, I think a prime Hawk would have stopped the version of Bernard from the early 90s. To Bernard's credit, he improved as a fighter, and I definitely pick him over Jackson peak vs peak. But, in the early 90s, Jackson might have given him more than he could handle.

    RING MAGAZINE RATINGS 1992

    Julian Jackson 44-1
    James Toney 31-0-2
    Mike McCallum 43-1-1
    S. Kalambay 53-5-1
    Roy Jones Jr 17-0
    Reggie Johnson 31-2-1
    Lamar Parks 21-0
    G McCellan 25-2
    B. Hopkins 18-1
    Collins 21-2

Now, that is what I call a stacked deck of good fighters. Only Gerald McClelllan was willing to step up and risk fighting the murderous punching Hawk. ( And, that was after Jackson was starting to age, and had his second retinal surgery)
