Alright, firstly Linares is absolutely not a top 10 P4P fighter. He's technically very good and has solid form on his shots but he isn't overly evasive and can be bullied a little bit. Plus he doesn't have the resume to beconsidered top 10 at all. I thought he beat Campbell pretty comfortably on the cards but Campbell did very well and certainly made it a closer fight then most of us guessed it might be. Campbell is good and looks to have learned from the Mendy fight. But he isn't world class. I would LOVE for Loma to come to the UK. Don't think he'll stop Campbell but I do think he wins pretty handily. Would be interesting to see how he copes with the size different as Luke is quite big at the weight anyway and Loma certainly won't be.
No way should luke take this fight. Whats the point, its a definate L. What it would boil down to is the manner in which the L happens. Also luke is a confidence fighter and anyone who understands the mental aspect of boxing would not put luke in there, hed have next to 0% belief in himself going in.
I think he's world class but the definition is up in the air nowadays with belts so easy to win. I actually think Campbell beats Easter jr so that would be an unbeaten belt holder. I had Linares winning the fight but it was competitive. But as Mendy showed, if you pressure Campbell and get past the jab he doesn't have the inside game to compete with the best BUT the division isn't stacked with Jose Luis Castillo/Juan Diaz type opposition. So you can see the flaws in his style that could be taken advantage of but I don't see many 135's at top level fighting like that. Shafikov can but not sure he'd be good enough. So as Campbell is competitive with all other 135's, Flanagan included if he remained at Lightweight I think he is world class but again, nowadays it's a loose term. You can win a title & defend it against opposition that cause you're style least issues. But to be fair to Luke, he's fought good opposition & if he fights Loma, he's fighting elite competition. Also, I agree Linares isn't top 10 pound for pound. He needed a second fight with Crolla & beat Mitchell less convincingly than Ricky Burns did. Talented fighter with speed and great combinations but he's vulnerable.
Luke Campbell confirms negotiations over potential fight with Vasyl Lomachenko By Richard Damerell and Andy Scott Last Updated: 12/03/18 3:52pm This content is protected Luke Campbell is being considered as a future opponent for Vasyl Lomachenko Luke Campbell says there is "definitely talk" about a Vasyl Lomachenko fight and would welcome the opportunity to test his skills against a fellow Olympic gold medallist. The Ukrainian two-weight world champion is expected to firstly target Jorge Linares in a move up to lightweight, but a potential bout with Campbell in Britain could also feature in plans for one of the sport's best pound-for-pound fighters. Top Rank, who guide the career of Lomachenko, are ready to offer a three-fight co-promotional deal to Campbell, according to reports in America, which could lead to a showdown between the two former amateur stars. "There is definitely talk about a potential fight between me and Lomachenko," Campbell told Sky Sports. "This is why I'm in boxing. I'm in boxing to face the best, fight the best, and beat the best. "This is a massive fight. He's a two-time Olympic champion, I'm Olympic champion. He's a world champion, but I want that world title as well. "A fight between me and him, I'm definitely up for. I love a challenge and I think it would be a great fight." Lomachenko is due to return on May 12, with Madison Square Garden in New York the expected location, and Campbell could appear on the undercard. This content is protected Lomachenko stopped pound-for-pound rival Guillermo Rigondeaux in December The Hull man claimed gold at bantamweight in the London 2012 games, while Lomachenko became Olympic champion at lightweight, following up his featherweight gold four years earlier in Beijing. Campbell added: "You get a lot of people sometimes complaining about fights not being made, because it's a business. I want to fight the best and why should anyone put negativity on it? This content is protected Why wouldn't I want to challenge myself against someone like that? I've got skill, speed, power, heart, and I'll fight anyone. Luke Campbell "He's probably pound-for-pound best on the planet, and that's my opinion, so I highly rate him but why wouldn't I want to challenge myself against someone like that? I've got skill, speed, power, heart, and I'll fight anyone." The more immediate options for Campbell could include a rematch with Yvan Mendy, who defeated him on points in 2015, while he also remains eager to avenge a debatable decision loss to Linares, or face domestic rival Anthony Crolla. This content is protected Campbell suffered a split decision defeat to Linares He said: "If you put Lomachenko out the window for a second, for me, my first two biggest fights I want, I want to clean my record. I want Mendy. I need to clean that loss. I want Linares. I need to clean that loss, and it's two fights I'm certainly capable, confident that I can beat. "Then there's another big fight with me and Anthony Crolla. There's three guys right there that are all potentially very big fights, and you've also got Lomachenko waiting there as well."
heard the plan is for Campbell to box on the Loma/Linares undercard, then fight again in US in September, then fight Loma after that
I dont see what people have an issue with. The mans 30 years old, its not like hes 23 and being fed to the lions. He's a good boxer, anybody is basically a mismatch for Lomochenko right now, I mean who does anybody actually fancy to beat him? Obviously it's all about winning first and foremost, but equally if Campbell puts in a stellar performance against a guy that literally breaks peoples spirit and has world rated pro's quitting on their stool fight after fight it can only be a good thing. Let's not forget, Lomo has been beaten. Ok it was in his second pro contest but he's still tasted defeat. He's not the termiantor. No man is unbeatable, Luke's big at the weight and he's a decent boxer in his prime so why not take the challenge. We need more of this.
I like Campbell! But he needs to rematch Yvan Mendy before i can get 100% serious about him, it's always a red flag when fighters don't rematch a clear loss. It's similar but not as bad as when Khan never avenged his Prescott loss down the line and made excuses off how Prescott had lost fights since then and the fight wouldn't be big and all sorts of waffle.
. Only problem can sometimes see with that is the huge disparity in risk reward. If lose again you are finished. If beat guy say poor points win you are criticised if win well it's what should did first place and sometimes the opponent wants stupid money. Salido wants something like 800 grand to rematch Loma wouod say 90 percent wouod back loma win and win well if rematch took place but if honest would much rather see him face linares than salido so happy days
If Luke Campbell vs Tommy Coyle did nearly 15,000 at Hull Stadium, imagine how much bigger it'd be if Golden Boy Lomachenko was in the opposite corner
