According to some folks Tokyo Douglas was the best HW fighter in history that night Maybe if Wlad had granted a fight to super-ancient Holyfield and put him in hospital some folks might tip their hat to him. Dino: "Wlad ducked super-ancient Holyfield, the coward!"
We saw him pepper Tyson with triple jabs and leather him with combos and uppercuts on the inside. Wlad does /can't do any of that. Douglas could also box and move at the same time which is a major attribute needed if you want a chance against Tyson. Wlad has to be set to throw even jabs and that flaw would render him a sitting goose against Tyson
Tyson nuts think Douglas was superman that night. Mike just never did enough coke, or too much? Reality - he let a 40/1 shot take all his belts. yeah, a shame old man Holyfield was outboxed by Sultan Ibragimov and missed his chance. Holy should have done a "Lets Go Champ" campaign.
How about - Brewster smashes up Wlad / Clifford UD Brewster / shot to bits Tyson KO1 Clifford.. Another swanny failure.
WK has single shot knock-down power you fool. 40/1 shot Douglas was chucking feather dusters and KO'd your boy.
I got to disagree on the Tyson - Tua comparison. Tyson was way more fluid and multi dimensional with his offensive attack. He was much faster of both foot and hand and could close distance quickly. Tua could not. Now Tua himself would probably be a nightmare for Tyson head to head but they compare very differently against other fighters. That aside. Yes it is true, Wlad after several fights with Steward learned to pace much better and his stamina also improved. I’m not trying to knock Wlad, at all, you don’t rule as the best heavyweight on the planet for 11 years unless you’re special talent. He was. Tyson to me though, could present problems, he was hard to hit to clean, he could also take many shots before being stopped and he could dish it out. This isn’t the old punching bag Lewis feasted on that we’re talking about this is the guy who destroyed Tubbs, Holmes and Spinks in less than 7 combined rounds. He deserves some respect like Wlad they both faced many prime guys not past prime guys. I respect Dan Rafael’s opinion and yours, you are a good poster both of you guys feel Wlad wins big. I think it’s 50/50. And i’m Someone that picks Wlad in numerous h2h matches. Legacy wise Wlad will be clearly in top 10 in several years. 18 unified defenses and he beat how many ring rated contenders at time they fought its an impressive number. From a size perspective it is difficult seeing Tyson winning once the fight settles I think his best shot is early. Kind of the strategy he employed while totally washed up against Lewis.
No doubt Dumbo will make the argument - and believe it - that Douglas would mop the floor with Wlad as well. He lives in a haze of eternal hope. Poor chap, now that Wlad's out of the picture he's all lost at sea. Who, oh who, can he turn his venemous attentions to next?
I agree with you Tyson was superior to Tua overall but you're looking at basically the same style and identical size. He just couldn't compete with Lewis at all. WK prime was every bit as good as that Lewis whatever the haters say, more single shot power also, and with both hands. That is going to quickly deter Tyson standing in the pocket too long. Wlad is also the atg master at leaning on and tying up guys. Boring to some but highly effective, especially to a midget like Tyson.
Again, this is objective and you map out a plausible scenario. My feeling is that in addition to pacing better and having better stamina under Steward, Wlad learned to clinch guys up like nobody's business. Yeah, it made for some truly awful fights (not always) but it was extremely effective. The thread starter all but acknowledges that Tyson is doomed if Wlad is allowed to clinch ad lib, and he's right. Tyson was easy to tie up and frustrate. I think Tyson has a better chance than other "little guys" because of his explosiveness but he's still going to have awful times trying to close down Wlad's footwork while eating jabs and straight rights all night. Of course on the other hand you get the usual Dildos that hammer on and on with their "Wlad loses to everybody" agenda ...
Wait for the young master Hrgovic to start winning big. I'm sure Dumbo will have choice words for him.
Lot of posters live in this fantasy that they get hooked on “marquee” names. I hear that as a constant gripe against Wlad that he never fought The big names. Truth is he beat younger better fighters than these guys at the time they fought them. For instance he defeated (dominated) Ibrigamov after he beat Holyfield. Convincingly. He beat Castillo (dominated) in his fight after he had just clearly beat Michael Moorer. Problem is most casuals don’t know these guys. They would probably think Wlad’s resume would look better if he had ko’s On it of shopworn Holyfield and Moorer. Of course the haters would point it out in a heartbeat that they were over the hill when he beat them. They twist the situation any which way they can’t to detract from the man’s accomplishments. Truth is Wlad faced all styles and more than most champions consistently faced both prime opposition and the best available. Atg
I agree with most of your post. Main thing is to be objective don’t let the forum doofus get to you. You ever see the movie rocky - Gazzo tells Rocky - referencing his chauffeur some ppl just love to hate, rock. That sums them up. Wlad’s accomplishments speak for them self. H2h nightmare, and dominant legacy. Nobody can take that away from him.
He was 40-1 and a world champion simply just not good enough and Brewster iced him out a year later two he just couldn't have then face it ya boys a robotic fraud
