Does media hype for Joshua make you root for opponent

I don't see the problem of AJ getting all the media hype. He is our Heavyweight Champion of the World and deserves all the UK support.
The reason people don't support him as much is because the casuals like him and the so called boxing enthusiasts don't want to be labelled the same as then. Me personally have no problem with the everyday casual supporter as more people who like boxing the bigger the sport will get.
I think we should get behind AJ as a nation as he is striving to be the best and I am sure he will beat Parker on Saturday and claim yet another belt.

 

The broadcast pundits are a joke. That's the problem.

AJ's popularity isn't a problem. Marketing isn't a problem. AJ's knoockout reels sell themselves. There's no harm in that sort of thing. He's a devastating, talented, awesome specimen and he works hard. He's a unified heavyweight belt holder. That's all good. There's no harm in repeating all that.

But the whole SKY-Matchroom-AJ circus goes beyond all that. The pundits and promoters seem to have no interest in informing the audience of anything in any sort of reasonable or unbiased manner. There are people - including professional fighters - behind the microphones talking absolute nonsense in some sort of demented competition to outdo each other in cheerleading the AJ show.
It's as if they're on drugs or hypnotised to talk bollocks.

 

What annoys mebis how he's made out to be better than he is, would honestly think he was the best boxer ever with no flaws and his public persona is so obv fake.

 

Hardcore boxing fans that hate on anything that garners a bit of attention from casual's are almost as bad as the casual's themselves.

However, I can't stand listening to Joshua interviews where he tries to say something clever literally every sentence & without fail, ends up looking dumb. In today's society which consists of smart phone addicted, Instagram loving narcissists, they think this personality is deep and cool. Cringe.

 

I don't mind the hype, I can't stand how fake he is, the masks slips every so often but not much is made of it in the mainstream

 

When hype is used to try and justify British title fights being put on PPV and fans get fleeced then yes it make me dislike the fighter involved.

 

This is what happens when everybody around you agrees with what you say, he seems to think he's some sort of all knowing life guru lately

 

I don’t think he gets enough and certainly doesn’t get enough respect from the public. There’s a few people especially on here who hang on to every word he’s ever said but the likes of Fury are the next coming of Christ despite saying and doing worse!

I love foreign fighters but brits will always come first for me. Just like with football, everyone loves Spain and Brazi - they’re amazing but you want England to win the World Cup! I’ll choose Tyson over Wlad, Joshua over Parker, Whyte over Browne, Burnett over Tete, Quigg over Valdez. Sometimes I know they’re not going to win but I’ll always root for he home side.

 

Well, even if you support Joshua it would nice to see Hearn shed a few and the fawning media.

 

nah its part of the game for the media to hype a guy up. The press is the country love giving it the big build to anyone in sports so they can then tear them down. I can mute the press fan boysim from the presenters etc they are just cogs in the wheel. You should judge a fighter on his own merits etc.

I just want fair and equal treatment. AJ has let the mask slip several times with the Eddie Chambers and Mugabe incidents and none of that was reported, yet when Fury said/did a few thing of a similar ilk he was obliterated.

In addition, AJ thinks he is some sort of omniscient and omnipotent demi-god.
His arrogance is off the charts, which as pointed out above, is down to everyone rimming him and blowing smoke up his 'arris.

 

I wouldn't mind the hype circus as much if it actually educated fans about boxing but it doesn'. Just spouts bull**** and put him in categories with ATGs.

Some outlet asked who would give AJ the better fight then gave 3 legends as options!

 

No. Sometimes too much hype can make me want to see a fighter lose to an extent. Sometimes hate can make me want to see a fighter win. AJ gets quite a bit of hate on here as well as hype so that balances it out for me.
