Spencer Fearon says Dillian Whyte reminds him Larry Holmes

Never saw Larry Holmes try spinning back fists in a boxing match, but I could have missed it

 

I listen to a lot of boxing podcasts I pretty much listen to the sky sports toe to toe one every week that Spencer Fearon is on. I am really surprised that I have not seen a thread on here about how clueless and dumb the bloke is.

 

A certain fella by the name of Richard Dwyer beats him in that department.

Fearon knows ALOT of boxing but sometimes his interpretation is different to ours; the Larry Holmes comment was simply 'he used his jab to create openings and bust Browne up the way Holmes used to do against his opponents. He was not comparing them head to head, or comparing jabs or skill set; just a particular MO that Whyte employed to good effect.

You idiots took that as 'Spencer Fearon compares Dillian Whyte to Larry Holmes. He needs to be fired'.

 

Let me tell you how Fearon's punditry works.

Someone mentions a fighter who isn't all that. Fearon elbow drops his keyboard so that a random name appears in the Boxrec search engine. Compare said fighters.

For example. "Joe Cordina really reminds me of....a young Ramon Antonio Calatayud".

Oh, and always pick the black dude in a fight too. He glosses over a lack of technical insight with name dropping, basically. Casuals love it.

 

Thread title is misleading af without context, irrc this is from a sky sports interview where he said whyte reminds him of Holmes in the sense neither were big punches but had the ability to brake people down over time, That was the only comparison he made to Holmes, he didn't say they were stylistically similar in any other way.

 

He does have similar attributes tbh, Whyte has the balance and throws his shots like Larry Holmes....... when he's hurt though.

Fearon must have walked into a jobseekers centre on the lucky day they were looking to fill the position of sky sports boxing pundit.

 

Funny enough I do thinking about it. Its the way he holds his hands, down at his waist level, but that is it. The posture at times.

 

I'm pretty sure he made the comment before the Browne fight when he was talking with Dave Allen, so I don't know how accurate your interpretation is.

He looked great against a very poor Browne without his Clenbuterol,credit where it’s due but Larry Holmes lol come on.
Why is boxing fans can’t be subjective anymore?
