This is why I have Wlad breaking his heart and stopping him, maybe be disqualification. 5 10" Tyson with a 6 6" super heavy with a jab and great mauling tactics. Tyson come off second best in the clinch to near enough everyone
The problem with Mike is that there are several big “what if’s” attached to him... What if Cus had lived longer? What if he hadn’t fired Rooney? What if he hadn’t done time? Tyson’s prime was so exhilarating yet short it’s hard to rate objectively. He was one of, if not the, most recognized name and face on the planet. And unlike Ali, he got that way purely from fighting with no political controversy. If a person didn’t live through that time it’s difficult to describe the sheer impact he had on, not just boxing, but pop culture. His sum total is greater than his parts. But ultimately he loses points for lack of longevity and overcoming adversity in the ring.
Tyson should be top 10 and no lower than 15. Collected each alphabet belt individually in totally one sided fights. Then crushed the previous dominant champ in 4 rounds something never done to that man before or after (Holmes) Then got his hands on the Lineal champ and obliterated him in 90 seconds. All by age 22. It was a short run of greatness due to his life outside the ring but hard pressed to find anyone with such a dominant run. Didn’t do much post prison but lingered around and gave reasonably difficult fights to the next generation long past his prime.
I am not sure where to rank him but in my book, Iron Mike will always will be the baddest man on the planet.
This. Tyson reached success too quickly and crashed and burned. However, in 30+ years I can't think of any heavyweight that matched in their entire career's what Mike accomplished in 2-3 years. He unified the titles and actually beat the real champion, which is far more impressive than picking up vacant titles. Also, Mike was willing to fight all the top contenders. He easily deserves to be in top 10 for all time heavyweights and a top 10-15 all time boxer.
Lol @ mentally fragile Wlad who panics and grasps like a scared cat stuck up a tree at even the sniff of a punch breaking Tyson's heart. Please show me when Tyson showed a lack of heart or when he came off second best in a clinch? Who in the 80's beat him by clinching?
Achievement wise he spent 3 decades ranked in the top 10 list and was the first and only HW to be ranked P4P#1. H2H at his best - top 5 easily.
