Also Dirrell (who was actually my pick to win the super six, sorry to say), Boytsov, Jrock, Helenius....
I saw Antoine Douglas fight a few times and thought that he would be a threat. I remember a lot of posters on here thought that Danni Geales would beat GGG I got a real good laugh out of that.
Sure. Yeah, it sounds silly now considering how underwhelming their careers turned out but when they were at that prospect/contender stage they were impressive
Definitely expected better when he got in with Ärzt Eisenfaust. From that point on I was never surprised by him lapsing into sparring partner mode at exactly the wrong moments for the rest of his stop-and-start, repeatedly self-sabotaging career. It just became the script, for him. As for your list: Audley Harrison - no, I think he was already exposed before I heard of him. David Price - kind of; I saw potential in him early on to be a "poor man's Wlad" ...and that kind of ended up being true. I did think his ceiling would be a little higher and that he wouldn't lose in the fashion he did against the caliber of fighters that he did. Seth Mitchell - nope, didn't succumb to his initial hype (even though a guy that used to be an idol of mine growing up, Phil Anselmo the lead singer of Pantera, was then writing articles on boxing and swore Mitchell was the best hope to dethrone K2) but was surprised at Banks and then Arreola blowing him out. I did pick him in both of those fights, but never thought he would conquer the world. Joe Hanks - hell no. You only needed to see a tiny scrap of footage to know he was another "look the part" bodybuilder with no skill. Andy Ruiz jr - yes, guilty. I thought his speed was uncanny for the division (still do), unmatched since perhaps Chris Byrd. Was always concerned about him being able to slim down enough to have reliable cardio, though - and even if he did, the worry became "would he then have enough meat on his bones to not get tossed around by super heavies?" Chris Arreola - **** no, was calling him an unskilled hype job from day 1, even though people swore he "could be really good if he slimmed down". Thought in his case it was utter BS, and still do (I've seen amateur footage, he was never skilled) even though I would spout that same line about Ruiz Jr. Bryant Jennings - yeah, to an extent. I realized from the get-go he was small and not exceptional in any one area, but he was so all-around solid that I figured he'd be our foremost contender from the US for a while..and in that respect, was kind of right. Kubrat Pulev - yes, the Euro hype wagon had me convinced he was at least as good as Povetkin if not better, and I half-expected him to be the one that would topple Wlad.
Ruiz hasn't really been shown up though has he? He basically proved that even "fat Andy" was at the same level as Joseph Parker. Seems like simply not staying busy and getting good fights (whether that's a promotional thing or a motivation thing) is going to be his problem.
Sugar Taishan Dong for years I thought he was the next Ray Robinson Lost a ton of money on Prince Maz
I thought that Conor McGregor was a good prospect but he got KO'd on his debut and we haven't heard from him since
Golovkin, after he got a gift decision against Jacobs, and a gift draw against Canelo. He also should have been disqualified vs Lemieux for that cheap blow after David was kneeling. I also doubt he ever was VADA or USADA tested, remember Golovkin’s favorite person is Putin and Putin is a cheater. Also I doubt Golovkin ever wins fairly, he loads up his gloves with concrete or glass, he thinks hes Tong Po from that Kickboxer movie.
Amir Imam - saw him as p4p material Bryant Jennings - thought he was division top 5 Nonito Donaire - was confident he'd beat Walters and will become a challenge for Lomachenko I'm surprised noone mentions Kudryashov, he was receiving a lot of hype here and was supposed to beat Usyk.
