People who see a Joshua victory as a near certainty are underestimating Parker…this is a really good matchup on paper, both have the strengths to take advantage of the others weaknesses. I’m picking Parker but, that may be underestimating Joshua…I underestimated Wilder vs Ortiz…It’s a great matchup.
As a Parker fan I feel he's being estimated commensurate with his abilities. Infact he's acting a little too confident, especially seeing him at the last presser. joshua is being realistic. Parker not so much. A touch of delusion in Parker seems to have crept in. He's lost a bit of the humbleness it seems
I certainly think so. Takam should have gone 12 for Joshua too. It is a likely AJ win as it is in Britain, no doubt another laughable stoppage. But I think Parker has a good chance. He needs to vary the range a lot over the fight. Keep Joshua moving and then when his guard drops to his chest and his jab starts pawing, which it inevitably does due to his bulk, set up a huge overhand countet right off of Joshuas jab. Right on the dinger.
His fast hands, solid chin and natural size/strength/power make him a threat. Short arms will probably turn out to be a disadvantage. Not really sure regarding his boxing IQ and skill level. I plan to watch a few more of his fights before Saturday night to learn more.
One bad sign for Parker. I often find it worrying when a young fighter gets a lot of media attention and suddenly starts spending a lot of time on his "appearance", etc. Parker now seems to think he has to be a 'male model' with his clothing styles. It often means they have taken their eye off the ball.... This happened with David Tua. (-Hairstyle, etc). Not good.
Boxing can be a mental game, a touch of delusion / believing in your self is critical. So I think Parker is approaching this the correct way. He's not afraid of AJ, not showing up for a pay day. He's there to win and in shape.
parker does have power its just he is not throwing enough straight shots down the pipe against corjanu /fury/ruiz he threw nearly all hooks be it right or left hand because they new there would not get many straight shots the opponents were able to take a lot of the sting on the gloves look at the shot where parker walked into nascimento and threw a beautiful straight right everything behind it in the first land that v joshua or nearly anyone and there going down the hooks are nice and fast but a lot of them are arm punches . he needs to straighten up on saturday and make joshua respect his power
The problem with Parker is he never seems to train or fight plan based on his strengths of speed and durability. Instead he plods in lands a few punches and hangs around to take the return punishment. He should be coming in and getting his flurries off and getting out. He has never been taught how to get out without taking punishment.
