If the Spinks that challenged Holmes had instead taken on Primo ?
Are we seeing the size and weight advantage work in Carnera s favour,, or is it another Cooney type ko for the Jinx ?

Simple Carnera couldn`t punch like Cooney so power wouldn`t have been a problem here for Spinks plus Carnera`s chin wasn`t any good Spinks would have toyed with him.

If spinks came into the ring as terrified as he did vs Tyson in 88, then Carnera wins in 90 seconds also. Hell, I'd beat that Spinks in 89 seconds

Too much is made about Spinks being "scared" of Tyson. I saw that same look from him numerous times getting into the ring. He was about as scared as any other professional world champion fighting somebody with devastating power.

Your right, Spinks never looked the most confident of fighters coming in ,a few time's he looked physically sick. Fact is he'd just never met anyone that fast and strong.

Carnera had a great chin so I don' think he gets knocked out, but he does get greatly out boxed, possible stoppage on cuts.

"Carnera's 1933 title defense against Tommy Loughran held the record for the greatest weight differential between two combatants in a world title fight (86Ibs) until the reign of Nikolai Valuev, who owns the current record for the 105½Ibs weight advantage he held in his 2006 defense against Monte Barrett."

Da Prime did pretty good in this bout. It was the real heavy hitters like Louis & Baer that overwhelmed the "Ambling Alp".

Carnera was knocked down fairly often, once by a lhvy and once by Sharkey who had the lowest ko% of any heavyweight champion of the modern era.

I call bull****. Spinks was terrified. I saw his entire career snd he was never like that. I still have the vhs tape of thr rntire card beginning to end. Spinks wouldn't even leave his dressing room. To say he wasn't scared shitless is a lie. Tyson fought a manican that night. The first knkdn was a joke. You Tyson lovers keep believing he beat a Spinks at his best, but you know different. And THAT is considered Tysons GREAT moment. Was it Louis pinnacle when he ko 1 Lewis? Lightheavyweight champ. Frazier ko2 Foster? Lightheavyweight champ. No. They both did great things and that fight was considered a forgone conclusion. Why is it different with Tyson? Because you nuthuggers have no other victory to hold on to. Pathetic.

The crucial difference is that Carnera would be a live body, while Cooney wasn't.

Whether people want to admit it or not, this is a truly awful stylistic match for Spinks.

I couldn't see anybody favoring Spinks if the eras were reversed.

I would. I'd pick Spinks to beat Gains, Stribling,Haynes, too. He'd have a good chance with Sharkey as well.

I like Spinks .. much better fighter, much, much faster, a harder hitter with much more game .. only way Primo stays in it is if the ref let's him clinch and hold all night ..
