We don't know if he was wrong because we don't know what is going to happen. There was good reason to believe the fight would go on, based on similar past cases that weren't cancelled, etc. We need to wait until April 18th now I guess lol. I mean, even if it gets cancelled, I don't think El Chiacano was wrong for his reaction to Dan Rafael's article. It wasn't like Rafael stated that he knew that the fight was getting cancelled, only that it was in serious jeopardy. I think a lot of this is psychological, Rafael's article caused a lot of people to believe that the fight was getting cancelled, and it could have played a role in how Bob Bennett and the NSAC is handling it. If there's enough outrage, it may factor into the NSAC's decision. But then again, we have no way of knowing what Bob and the NSAC will do and whether any of this chatter will play a role in the decision that is made.

Yeah, and he's also fought guys like Canelo and Jacobs. Do Andrade and Derevyanchenko **** them up or not?

It's a very confusing situation, and delaying the hearing doesn't really make any sense to me. I don't think you can read too much into the fight not being promoted by HBO or refunds being offered. I think that's pretty much just a standard reaction to the news about Canelo being suspended. A lot of people are acting like that indicates the fight will be cancelled. The people that matter as far as if the fight will happen on May 5th are Bob Bennett and the NSAC, not the ticket salesperson who decided to offer refunds, not HBO who isn't promoting the fight until this is resolved. Offering refunds is more of just a courtesy to fans and HBO not promoting the fight is pretty much what you'd expect to happen given the temporary suspension. I mean what do you expect them to do, to still advertise the fight on their broadcasts? As Lampley said the other day, that just wouldn't make sense.

So I don't think the ticket refunds offerred and the non-promotion by HBO during this time says anything about whether the fight will be cancelled. It's not as if Bob Bennett called the T-Mobile arena and told them to start offering refunds or anything.

From what I just read, it is now being called a "disciplinary hearing". I don't think they used that term before the reschedule.

It looks like the NSAC might be going harsh to put an end to PED users.

Doesn't make Dan's article a conspiracy theory now does it? It's more a likely possibility than a conspiracy theory...

Let's say the fight does happen. HBO will have 2 weeks to promote everything. They will have to release the 24/7s and the Faceoffs. Can they schedule all of this?

They convinced everybody to look at Sarah Jessica Parker's equine visage for six years, I'm pretty sure they can do anything.

Pushing the date back to April 18th definitely squeezes the promotion into a small window. If I'm not mistaken, I believe the face off with Max Kellerman was originally scheduled to be broadcast on April 10th, the same day that we thought the hearing was going to be. (but according to Bennett's statement today that was supposed to actually be tomorrow) But now with the hearing set for April 18th, one would think HBO will push that back even further.

From a promotional standpoint, in a way all this drama about the hearing and if the fight will be cancelled kind of creates its own promotion by itself. But you ask a good question, will HBO adjust their schedule to wait to broadcast the face off and 24/7 until after the hearing?

Another problem with the face off now is that was filmed before any of this clenbuterol stuff even came out lol, so watching that next month is certainly going to seem very dated.

I see a situation where Canelo gets a 6-month suspension. Golovkin will get 2 fights before a Canelo rematch in September. He would fight Charlo/Murata and Derevyanchenko to get his mandatories cleared prior to the rematch. Or, TeamGGG does not set up a fight for May 5th, and instead wait until June to get a BJS fight.

That's most likely the case 6 month and it's a light sentence. It certainly wont deter others from doing PEDS at all.
The right thing to do since he failed twice. He should get two years plus two more in addition for trying to get away with it using bogus excuses tainted meat, whatever..

This is the best scenario but more likely it will be 6 month at most.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's just to distract Golovkin, I have no faith this will be resolved fairly.

    Post:

I'm reading a copy of the Nevada commission complaint against Canelo Alvarez for his two failed tests. This is a telling quote from the complaint, which is a key reason why the fight with Golovkin is likely to be canceled: notes, “Alvarez’s utilization, ingestion and/or consumption of Clenbuterol, whether intentional or not, constitutes an anti-doping violation.”
