Cooper's manager stated:....."if we see Sonny Liston coming down the street, then Henry and I walk on the other side of the street".

only with the benefit of hindsight.

I know that i thought Spinks was better than Holyfield at the time. At the time (and solely from memory) Bonecrusher Smith, Biggs, Bruno, Williams, Ruddock maybe even Berbick would have all fancied their chances against Holyfield, at the time. Holy was probably the leading contender of the bunch but there was nothing to suggest that there was anyone around that would beat Tyson.

Do you realise Hagler did not even have a title by the time McCallum beat Curry? Hagler never fought again from a date prior to McCallum - Curry.

    Typical McCallum BS.

It was the same year though and Curry was even asked to step aside for Ray when Don was going to move up and fight Marvin.

Henry said that was the attitude of his team so they avoided Liston but Cooper said that was a mistake after he saw Liston lose to Ali, Cooper was more competitive in his fights v Ali and in the second fight Ali trained down to 214lbs for more speed v Cooper and for my money Ali was better against Cooper that he was in the Liston fight more elusive.

If Bruno ever thought he could beat Holy then he was deluded different class, Smith was crap v Bruno, Williams wasn`t doing much at the time he came up to fight Holy, Ruddock wasn`t as known as much as Holy at that time Berbick didn`t do anything after the Tyson fight people thought that fight was all about Tyson while Holy was a great cruiser.

Joe Frazier cleaned out the heavyweight division from `66 through `71. He took over the heavyweight division. He was a great fighter during that period when he was at his peak. He held the title all the way to `73 but he was resting on his laurels after beating Ali.

He faced the guy who destroyed Cuevas. And there really was no need for a Benitez rematch, even though I'd liked to see it.

I don't fault Leonard for either of those, no matter what was said in the moment.

What had Curry and Starling done by the time Leonard retired?
