The same trick used on Wilder. Joshua should be fighting Wilder next and money is no excuse as there is plenty to go round. If not Wilder then Povetkin should be next and I feel Eh Day has this in the bag with the fact he was on the card tonight. Both Wilder and Povetkin will certainly be far tougher tests than Parker tonight. Tyson Fury needs 3-4 fights then I think he could be a nightmare for Joshua after watching the fight tonight
Yeah, to be fair to Price his stamina looked far better, it was fought at a decent enough pace, he was holding up well. Price got caught with a great right hand and was knocked out standing upright, the left hand to finish him was absolutely brutal. Personally I believe he should retire, I don't think he will but what else can he do? its a long way back after that sort of KO at that stage of his career. If he fights on then it's domestic level fights and he'll be an "opponent" for the like of Joe Joyce at some point in the next 12 months.
I feel a bit bad for big Pricey, he was facing a much better guy than Parker in there and gave him a count (unlike boring Joshua vs said Parker). He gave the punters some value.
I give Price credit for getting in the ring with Povetkin. There was no need for him to do but he did anyway so credit to him. They didn’t look like they didn’t belong in the same ring together watching it for four rounds but then Povetkin stepped it up a gear and that was a savage stoppage. I don’t think Hearn wants Joshua anywhere near Povetkin IMO. Price reminds me a bit of Khan in the sense he is always in exciting fights and names are always going to want to fight him. Like Khan can make fighters look silly if he doesn’t lose his head and i think of Price boxed to the perfect game plan he could win against top draw fighters. I think Price will get another shot at a big name if not if he has earnt enough to retire he should call it a day
Yeah, after 4 rounds I was sitting there slightly shocked, Price was doing far better than I thought he would. I starting to think there is something in this theory that Hearn sticks fighters in the way of Joshua's potential opponets.. Hearn signed Ortiz and then stuck Dave Allen in with him when there was a lot of talk of Joshua Vs Ortiz and then doesn't work with Ortiz any longer. He sticks Whyte in front of Wilder, I understand that one now with Whyte being Number 1 but if I am honest not at the start. Povetkin knocks Price spark out, is going to be AJ mandatory and Hearn is standing next to Whyte and Whyte is calling out Povetkin. Hearn seems to stick hurdles in front of potential opponets when there is no need to.
I agree completely. When has Joshua ever called out Povetkin or Ortiz let alone Wilder? He’s being told not to IMO. Joshua is very good don’t get me wrong but he won a vacant title against can Martin and just about got over the line against a 40 year old. Why isn’t he calling out a 38 year old Povetkin and old man Ortiz? Joshua is being matched very carefully. Miller will be next for him
People always say that, but the thing is, when you jab you open up yourself. Price's feet and reactions are so slow that he wouldve just eaten massive counters if he threw more jabs. Povetkin would have gotten him out of there even sooner if he did that. The fact that he fought so conservatively with the gloves pretty much welded to his face is what kept him vertical for so long. Bottom line, he was fked either way.
Was so proud of price last night. Especially when he went down that first time....your thinking that,ll be that. Only to see pricey show some kind of aggresson by saying not today picking himself back up and fighting his way back into it. I still don't know for the life of me why the ref gave povetkin the 8 count. Something to do with the ropes holding him up or something like that. But theres no danger the refs following them rules if parker was hurt like that. Would be a case of letting Joshua finish him off. Felt for price after the knockout but for me its job done he can leave the game with his head held high after that. He came up short in his career but he gave it his best in the end. Thats all we ever wanted to see. Just wasn't quite good enough overall. Still get success at domestic level etc but does he really want to go there. I,d still watch him fight. But probably be happier seeing him call it a day now.
