Ingo was tied to rematches. Floyd was tied to rematches. Sonny was tied to rematches. Ali was tied to rematches. From 1959 to 1965 Ingo v Johansson was as impossible to make as a title fight as Floyd v Cooper or Sonny v Terrell within that 59-65 period. It does not mean anybody ducked or feared anyone else. The rematch clause prevented any new champion from defending against anybody but the last guy he beat.

Saying Ingo feard Sonny is as silly as saying Ali feard Machen.

I wouldn't call Ingo mediocre. Limited but he still had that big right hand which could make up for quite a bit.

You are starting to make more sense. Although “limited” would surely restrict somebody reaching the highest limit.

Seems like 62% rate Ingos bingo at top ten or higher than top ten.

    Put it this way.

If you don't rate Ingo's right hand, then you must be seeing some other qualities in him that I have missed, because he certainly wasn't successful for no reason!

We need clarification. I voted "higher" based on higher being outside top 30.

Ingo's right hand won him one championship fight and not a whole lot more over contenders. It was also not exactly the strongest of era's.

You made less than zero sense when you called it probably the best right hand in the divisions history so lets not talk about making sense.

Even in a weak era, it should take a lot more than a good right hand, to get you the title.

What other lineal champion didn't have much going for him except one good punch?

Frazier did a helluva lot primarily with a great left hook yes? Lets not overdo what he actually did.

One good right hand can indeed get you a title.

Ali ever offered million dollars to fight Eddie and turn it down?

Ali would have had to turn it down if he was contracted to meet Liston in a rematch. Those clauses were iron clad in the day.

Talk of these offers is so cheap. In fact they are worthless.

Some guy offered Patterson money to fight Lavorante. Floyd couldn’t take it. Does that mean Floyd ducked Lavorante? That never came off because it couldn’t.

Terrell wanted to fight Liston. Does that mean he was ducked? Or does it just mean Sonny had to rematch Patterson?

Contenders are always wanting to fight the champion aren’t they? Nobody turns down big money. But a lot of stuff has to be in place before a contract can be printed for anyone to sign.

Where was that deal, who put the money up, when was it supposed to happen? I would like to see proof of this deal. It sounds like hogwash.

Higher obviously means higher than ALL the other options. Myself I voted top ten.
