Regis and Ramirez put that division back on the map , but Id agree that HW is still a fair bit better.

Thats just Regis and Ramirez. And with such low competition they can only go so far, in terms of popularity.
140 is not on the map at all. Those two dont have the platform to carry the division.
There is some life in it if they all keep fighting each other, but atm its rather bleak and dull.

Ring Magzine's top 10 have 6 as undefeated and the rest have only one loss with the exception of Relikh, who has 2 losses. Aka they are not fighting each other. Everyone went after the vacant belts.

It's always been the same way.

You don't like the Klitschkos - the division is weak

You don't like Lennox Lewis? The division was weak

You don't like Tyson? The division was weak

You don't like Holmes? The division was weak

You don't like Marciano? The division was weak.

Probably the only person who doesn't have this argument thrown at him is Ali, but then even he has his haters.

There is a temptation to look at the past with rose tinted specs though, our memories tend to condense all the good stuff and forget all the garbage.

And yeah, of course the HW division is never as skilful as the lower weights, but the fact remains, AJ would knock out any middleweight or flyweight you could care to mention, so he is the best in the world.

And I think some Americans are throwing their toys out the pram now, because they aren't dominant anymore, they haven't been since the 80s. It's over for them.

And AJ is well on the way to being mentioned in the same breath as all the aforementioned guys above.

    The British are coming! :bananaride

For the past ~year we've seen:

    Top-tier:
    Klitschko vs. Joshua
    Joshua vs. Parker
    Parker vs. Fury
    Wilder vs. Ortiz

    Lower-tier:
    Povetkin - Price
    Whyte - Browne
    Kownacki - Kiladze
    Breazeale - Ugonoh
    Washington - Miller
    Haye - Bellew

WBSS is good for cruiserweight, but other than that I can't think of another division with the same intensity going on. Please correct me if I miss anything.

I agree with about 30% of it, disagree with most of it and some it is just total bull****

But the Cruiserweight comment is very true, imagine if all boxing fans and casuals watched that division. it delivers all the time - the best and most stacked division in boxing full of attacking fighters and big punchers with granite chins and they all fight each other, it's a great division.

Whilst most heavyweight fights are boring there's been some entertaining ones recently - Wilder- Ortiz, Povetkin-Price. and in the last 18 months Joshua- Klitschko and Chisora-Whyte were brilliant.

I don't why people have this misconception that Ivan Dychko is 'packing glass' just because he got knocked out once by the best amateur heavyweight in recent years in Majidov- a 3x world championship gold medalist and a HUGE puncher. Majidov has been like the ****ing Rocky Marciano of recent times in the amateurs and was in his prime and a total beast when he knocked Dychko out. To my knowledge Ivan Dychko has never even been dropped apart from that ONE time and he's faced all the best super heavyweights including Majidov numerous times. He seems to have a solid chin.

and I think Usyk and Gassiev will make a big difference to the heavyweight division when they move up, and Filip Hrgovic is a very good prospect.

I agree with you mostly on all that but i wouldn't discount the ''work in progress'' aspect of some of those fighters.

It's a very sad issue to contemplate. If anything I think you're being too kind to the division. I seriously believe
Pinklon Thomas would defeat all or at least most of these guys easily.

Joshua is the worst HW champ since, I don't know, maybe Braddock. Did Botha ever have a belt? Maybe he'd be worse. Joshua is a robot. Had not idea how to handle Parker's movement. If Parker had a punch, if he had ANYTHING to make Joshua show him show some respect, he would have done a lot better but let's be honest in Wales he would have had to put a David Price like KO to win.

I don't think you can just ''write off'' heavyweights early in their careers like Dubois etc. Fighters can learn later on in their careers and refine their craft.

I don't think Joshua can change much in the sense of his boxing ability but he can get smarter through experience. I think Parker has more upside to improve.
