A reach advantage is an advantage full stop!

One thing about the modern fighters is their poor footwork, Parker showed it's no good having fast hands if you haven't got the legs to get you in position to land. I'm thinking of Holyfield bouncing on his toes, where has that got in the division?

A longer reach is a longer reach. It can often be used to a fighters advantage. More often than not it is. Sometimes it isn’t used to the fighters advantage.

At heavyweight, in championship fights we have seen Lewis, then the Klitschkos use long arms as an advantage against a division too slow or too inexperienced to negate a reach advantage.

Povetkin overcame a reach advantage against Price but not against Klitschko. It is quite rare these days in championship fights.

So, a longer reach is an intrinsic advantage?

It always is tbh but some fighters are that talented they can overcome it.

Good point. As I said most of the times a fighter will be able to employ reach as an advantage. Sometimes not.

No, you keep trying to trip me up with it. You would love for me to be thinking long arms is always the disadvantage - when in truth I have only ever held the view that having long arms is only an advantage if it is used to its advantage. - a point that is well known and accepted in boxing circles.

    obviously.

So, can it be an advantage to have a shorter reach? A MUCH shorter reach? Can that be an advantage for a fighter?

Read the Marciano threads and you will quickly become educated on this! 68" is so much of an advantage!!!!
