The more I read of CST the more I think he might actually be Mike Tyson behind the keyboard. The Huge and occasionally misused vocabulary, the cadence of the words. It wreaks of Mike.

I'm actually glad you picked up on that, aside from the veiled insult, because that's how I write, I formulate an obnoxious wrestler/angry stand up promo/rant in my mind, get the outline worked out in my head and go to town, writing extemporaneously throwing in as many grandiose clichéd flourishes as I can fit into them along the way. No one will waste a second of their time on anything I write if I bore the s*** out of them.

I love the division but am well aware of it's glaring flaws and they annoy me to no end as a fan. There are several problems with the HW division that have persisted since the Klitschko era that have made the division suck. More so than talent there's been a shockingly low amount of top level fights. Even if the talent pool is questionable, the best avoiding each other is always going to make a division seem more static and lifeless. I'm optimistic that the division will improve with the new amateur talent that's turned over as well as Usyk/Gassiev moving up. Hopefully promoters give them the right opportunities to shine as opposed to stalling their careers out.

The heavyweight division, talent wise is in a dire position. The best heavyweights are all heavily flawed and their skill leves are not up to comparison with some of the other era,s of the division. But its saving grace is it is a well matched division. All the top boys can beat each other.

The reason is it booming is cuz its the blue ribbon weight class, its the 100 metres sprint, its Formula 1. If this sport was just watched and paid for by hardcore Boxing fans heavyweight division would be dead. But its not just watched by us, it is the masses, the millions across the world who pay for it, they dont come on here, they dont watch Radio Rahim or IFL videos. They cant even name fighters from lower weight divisions. My mates couldnt wait for AJ next fight, they been planning which pub to watch it in for ages, they ask me "Is this Palmer guy any good" They dont know anything.

Well let's be real, it did not start overnight, we had Wilder-Scott as an eliminator, Arreola and Stiverne battled for a title and Wlad fought Pianeta and Leapai.

These aren't signs of a strong division. We really need AJ and Wilder to fight a couple of times to bring the shine back.

Pulev is immensely talented? I strongly disagree. He has a decent snapping jab, and the understanding of how to use it to keep fighters at a distance or soften them up for right hands, but that's about the only thing he does well. There's no subtlety or complexity to his game. His offence is highly limited (both in terms of punch variety and range), his defence consists of mostly leaning straight back with his hands out in front of him, and he can't adapt to anything the opponent might be doing that takes him out of his game. He doesn't set traps or befuddle fighters with use of feints or angles, he never varies his timing, rarely employs any sort of head movement to open up scoring opportunities, can't cut off the ring particularly well and has no other intangibles that might make moot anything I criticise about him above.

To top it off, his ambitions have been completely neutered following the Wlad fight, and he's terrified of getting into the ring with anyone above Chisora level. He's the most undeserving top ten fighter in the division, and should have been dropped years ago frankly. I'd even rate Dillian Whyte above him right now, and I think Whyte's a complete garbage man.

I agree with pretty much all of this except by the standards of today's HW scene what Pulev is (which is exactly as you describe) actually does pass for "immensely talented", relatively speaking.

This is typical of any era to be honest, I have been a keen boxing fan since the mid 60's. Much criticism and displeasure could be found through-out each era with people lamenting previous champions or eras. The 'golden age' of the heavyweight division is only ever determined long after it has past. The fights that should have happened but didn't, get forgotten, the corruption in the 80's with Don King, the 90's and politics etc etc.

I don't share your view CST. Heavyweight boxing as of right now is the best we have it for a very long time. We have the top guys fighting each other. We have YouTube! We have several promoters putting together big events. There IS some great talented prospects coming up.

Obviously, time will tell.. but honestly in 10 years from now I would bet there would be other writers lamenting the passing of the era we currently find ourselves in.

I'm so done with the HW division and boxing that I actually agree with Wilder about wanting a body on his record - my body.

I'm liking that pic of Catherine Deneuve a lot. I used to be strangely unmoved by her beauty but she's grown on me a lot these the last few years. Really pretty eyes. They remind me a little bit of Natalie Wood's eyes.
