Closest that comes to mind might be a young Errol Spence allegedly having his way with Mayweather in sparring.

Outboxed him comfortably but he hardly beat the crap out of him. Mind you it was a declining Chavez too not that i'd back him to win regardless but others might peak for peak. You seem to have immense disdain for poor Julio!!!

    Welcome back!

Why?because i say the truth? It is like saying that i hate ali because i say that Frazier did beat him.nonsense.
And julio was in his perfect prime against whitaker, stop making excuses. I buy this excuse against de lahoya but against pernell he was perfect, only a single year before he kicked the ass of camacho

I suspect this scenario has happened quite often over the course of history. At least the 1st time the respective fighters spar. The young guy is out to prove meanwhile the established champion may be in a different place mentally. It' Practice

Chavez held the fresher Whitaker to a draw. Some said that Chavez won. Some said Whitaker. Who is to judge history?

Chavez wasn't declining when he drew (lost) to Whitaker.

He was simply out boxed by a better fighter.

Whitaker did not "beat the crap out of Chavez". Chavez was also not "in his perfect prime". Chavez kicking the rear posterior of a Camacho who was not even close to what he'd been years earlier does not mean Chavez was perfect prime a year earlier.

Chavez was peak around 135 imo (some might bid lower) and sure as hell not at welterweight. They fought at 147 for heavens sake where neither was peak.

The Whitaker fight was just a handful of months prior to his losses vs Randall. He was visibly slowed and showed signs of this as early as Taylor 1 i reckon. Whitaker as said was diminished somewhat as well.

Peak for peak i would mildly favor Whitaker at 135. I'd lean toward him outboxing Chavez.

He may have been but don't even begin to pretend he was peak. Blind Freddy knows the Chavez peak was not at 147.

No of them was a welter but both them fought under the same conditions... At 135 or 140 pernell wins..
