I'm half-kidding, obviously, I know how things work in reality - but on paper I do feel that "celebrity treatment" shouldn't really be a thing. It depends on context, obviously. A champion going up to challenge the champ in the next division up is one thing (and has loads of historical precedent in the sport as being not just acceptable but very commonplace), but if somebody happens to not be holding any hardware at the moment and just appears in a new weight class saying "ta-da! Hand me a title shot, please. " - I don't care if they are the biggest PPV draw in history, I'm dead-set against that. I also don't believe in 12-rounders where nothing is on the line (ie Hopkins vs. Pavlik or RJJ II, Cotto vs. Delvin Rodriguez, Mayweather vs. Mosley or JMM, Pacquiao vs. DLH). If neither of you has any hardware and you're not having an eliminator box-off with a higher ranking at stake, you shouldn't be scheduled to box above 10 rounds, period. I don't care about star power; institutions either have inherent meaning and value or they don't. You can't just have them selectively mean something and then arbitrarily chuck that out the window because some coddled millionaire athlete considers a 10-rounder beneath him.
