rounds are not just based on the number of punches that land however. Its supposed to be based on 4 different factors with clean punches landing just one aspect. People just whip up punch landed stats (from compu box which is certainly not 100% accurate!) and say so and so won a round based on this stat.. rounds are also scored on defence, ring generalship and effective aggression. these are all far more subjective and cant be recorded the saem way as punches landed. I do agree however that 10-10 rounds are not given anywhere near as much as they once were it seems.
Made even more poignant by the fact it's the male presenters' lack of knowledge that we're criticising!
I get its based on the 4 different criterias mate. But should you really get a round scored in your favour for ring generalship....for taking the centre of the ring when your three inches bigger with a seven inch reach advantage. Right away from the off the smaller man has a massive disadvantage for kind of being the smaller man. Same with Effective aggresson. If there both landing about the same its hard to count one as being the more effective aggressive etc. I,d go as far to say if your counting the bigger man for ring generalship for pretty much being bigger....you should probably count the smaller man for effective aggresson if hes landing the same as the bigger man. Honestly would have liked to see a lot of them rounds ten-ten on Saturday. To discourage spoiling tactics being used. Trying to outpunch people by two or three punches to win a round. Joshua won the fight. But I,d say by about a three points swing. He got the better of most of the rounds but it was minimul stuff. One of two punches more....and just being bigger shouldn't,t be winning you the rounds.
But ring generalship doesnt mean taking control of the centre of the ring as far as im aware bud, im sure its controlling the pace and the fight? As twenty said BJS controlled the fight on the back foot and made Lemuiex follow him round the ring. To be fair it is easily the hardest one to judge and I am not overly keen on a fight being judged on this, some fighters like to lure others on them so I would think its a very subjective area to judge on which I do not like.
Yeah agree mate hard to judge bearing in mind the different styles/sizes of the fighters. It probably is controlling the fight/pace etc. I think the heavyweights should be more of a grey area with the scoring tho. At heavyweight with the difference in size/length/height differences...its really hard for the smaller guys to control the fight/pace with the way the bigger guys are fighting nowadays. Or more they need to give a good bit more of themselves than the bigger guys to get the upperhand in controlling the fight/pace etc. The bigger guys have started relying on spoiling tactics. Its usually. Edge up to get the jab off using the longer reach. If the smaller fighter goes forward to exchange the bigger guy backs off. To then start edging up again to do the same again. The only real alternative the smaller guys have is try to chase them round the ring probably walking into a big punch. I,d like to see them stop giving the bigger guys the benefit with tactics like that. Its not controlling the fight with skill etc. Its just spoiling tactics using their bigger advantages. At other weights fair enough but with the difference in the heavyweights it would,nt be the worst idea in the world. I m not saying punish them for it....but if their doing that and still only hitting the smaller man with a couple of punches more a round. Make it a ten-ten. Obviously if there's a difference of 7 or 8 punches you,ve kind of got to give them the round but not one or two more. Which at least six of them rounds we,re. Just my opinion tho mate.
