Nice breakdown, marting. Like @Bustajay I think you nail down some of the keys here. I think there's a real possibility it won't happen in 2018 either, and worse yet, I fear it may not happen until 2020. While I would comfortably favor Wilder and Joshua against anyone heavyweight not named Fury, I do think Wilder and Joshua are each flawed enough that they could easily wind up losing against someone else, so I really hope - at the very least - they put this match together before something like that can derail the setting of having two undefeated heavyweight champions near-prime battling for all the marbles.
Joshua and easily. People don't understand that Wilder has been in only with opponents he's dominated physically. Now we have someone who's just as impressive a physical specimen but also has far better boxing skills. Wilder would simply get neutralized.
I mean sure Wilder does have a puncher's chance with his power and ferocity but I struggle to see how anyone can have him as a favourite on paper.
The main reason I'm not so sure about what you're saying, is because I think Wilder possesses greater athleticism than Joshua. And because of that, even with better boxing skills, I'm not sure that AJ will be able to neutralize that athleticism through sheer size and physicality. I'm not saying you're wrong. Just that I'm not so sure about it.
I think this is one of the keys to the entire fight, how does AJ respond to Wilder's speed and movement? If he gets confused and tries to follow Wilder around throwing jabs and "box", he's getting stopped.
He's a better and more fluid athlete than Joshua...AJ moves around like a robot, he is steadily gaining weight and getting slower by the fight, this will be a problem for him vs Wilder.
More explosive, yea but I think people underestimate Joshua's athleticism because he moves in a calculated manner, and doesn't waste much energy unlike Wilder who performs more unorthodox moves. When Joshua explodes with combos its a scary sight.
Im not suggesting he’s unathletic, I’m suggesting he isn’t as fast of hand or foot as Wilder, he’s also not as fluid. That doesn’t make him unathletic. That said he is carrying too much muscle and it’s making him stiff and slower, IMHO.
Good topic for one of these videos. I'll nit-pick on a few points. By that I mean I'll give a different perspective. Firstly, I won't consider the winner of Joshua v Wilder the "undisputed" champ. I'll consider the winner the "unified" alphabet champ, not the undisputed champ. If the winner wants to be considered "undisputed", he needs to fight Tyson Fury the same way Mike Tyson needed to fight Michael Spinks. Secondly, I think Joshua starts as a big favourite. It's not a 50/50 fight. Joshua is physically stronger & was Olympic champ. I think the fight is certain to be in London which will cement that favouritism. Thirdly, I don't think they need to fight each other next. I'm okay with Wilder v Breazeale and Joshua v Miller next. In fact, I'd prefer it that way. I think both Breazer & Miller are live underdogs. I don't assume Wilder & Joshua automatically win those fights. An upset (or two) wouldn't surprise me in the least. If they do happen to beat those opponents though, I think Joshua v Wilder is massive. Off the chart massive. Which is what I think the fight deserves to be. And the fighters will have played their part in making it that way. Everyone will want it like a rat wants cheese. Who wins? Both are devastating punchers & both have glass jaws (imo). I favour Joshua (he looks the more convincing to me), but I reckon I'll be cheering for Deontay. He's copped plenty of abuse (from fans in particular) but if he connects with one of those heat-seeking missiles, Joshua is definitely going to know about it (that's if he's still upright & conscious after it detonates). I think Joshua will fight Wilder the same way he did Parker - very carefully behind the jab. One point I do agree on though is that Deontay is more likely to roll the dice & throw caution to the wind in order to create openings.
If we are talking strict of footspeed or vertical leap and such, I do agree with you. (However low weight affects vertical leap as well) But balance is also part of athleticism. Joshua is more fluid in his movement, doesn't need to cover distance as quick because he is better at judging distance. Wilder also gets of balance when he leaps in for a haymayker, he often misses and gets off balance because of over extension, poor balance and robotic footwork - but against short and slow guys he can get away with it - That or when he leaps way back to avoid one. He isn't in a good position for his counters to be effective - even if he has that great vertical leap. Think of wilder as if he has springs under his shoes. Good for leaping forwards and backwards? - Yes! But then imagine that you had to box against a more fluid mover as tall as you - but with those springs under your shoes... A little wrong step here or there and the stiff robotic thin long legs snaps totally out of position, You would have gotten bated and thrown out of position just to get countered by a heavier and stronger man that's also a faster, more deadlier finisher on the inside.
It's a toss up. Nobody really know who will win, which makes for a great matchup. Good for boxing if it happens this year. Hope it does
