Wilder willing to go to the UK, seems to be getting realistic in his demands

Wilder's team have played a blinder really. Didn't dance to the Matchroom tune by joining in with the circus on Saturday, and then took control of the story two day's later. Over to you AJ and Hearn...

 

Wilder came to reality that the peoples do not yet see him as great as he sees himself.

I don't understand what's meant to be different now. Wilder's said the same stuff over and over again.

Funny, when Hearn finally accepts one of Deontay's random diatribes as not incredibly far off base all of a sudden the same **** he's said since AJ made that comment about not being read until 2019 now makes sense and is sensible.

....but it ain't racism doe.

 

They're in control of nothing even now. If the Comms battle were a fight the referee would've already stopped it as a no contest. They missed out on a lot of free press and with the Ortiz match fresh in the memory a perfect chance to improve the positioning of their guy.

A better and more proactive Comms/PR team would've gone to Cardiff and executed their own strategy anticipating and countering any Matchroom moves with their own narrative. They would've planned the week ensuring that Wilder was always ready with a newsworthy soundbite to keep him in the day to day coverage. Wilder deserves better advice and support than he's getting.

 

Probably doesn't want to weaken his negotiation power or distract from a Joshua fight by even acknowledging Whyte's existence.

 

On the contrary, they are playing a power game with two control freaks....

 

I think it’s 100% a pride thing. He doesn’t want to be seen as not the master of his own path. Accepting the fight with Whyte makes it look like Eddie is running the show. It’s extra effort that Deontay doesn’t feel he should have to put forth. I’m not saying I totally agree but that’s how I’ve come to understand it.

 

I think he knows he's KO-in-waiting, might as well be against AJ for all the belts than Whyte to lose his own. And then, of course, he might catch AJ and hit the jackpot. Also the AJ contract will be for two fights, I suspect, so two pay days are at risk. Add that all up and swerving Whyte makes more sense....

 

I get the power dynamics angle, but that shouldn't have stopped them taking full advantage of the press coverage last week. Like I say, a good comms strategist would've put them on the front foot, especially as Wilder has genuine charisma if properly guided. As it is, their comms are a disaster area.

 

Guess you have to weigh up risk/reward. They decided the Whyte fight is not worth the risk (however small that is) compared to the reward (massive and life-changing) of the AJ fight(s) for all the belts. Either way, we both pointing out his lack of confidence....
