Louis breaks him down and Bowe got hit a bit too much to get hit too much by the brown bomber....bad beating Bowe takes until RSC or Bowe goes down and out. I would bet a bundle on this one

I voted for Joe Louis but did so with no real conviction. I agree with McGrain who said that when Bowe was in top form he would have been Louis's best opponent. Both men showed vulnerabilities and even against lesser opponents. Bowe had the better chin and a significant size advantage while Louis was faster with better combination punching ability. I can't see this one lasting the distance especially if we're looking at a 15 round fight. Someone is getting stopped.

Bowe loved to fight on the inside and to be fair he was very adept at inside fighting and may knock Louis down but Louis would crush him with tight combinations and force a stoppage inside 6 rounds.

Louis by ko by the count of 50. He fought bigger and stronger guys with much better defence too

He beat Carnera and Simon, both of those guys are bigger and stronger than Foreman, with better defense also

I see both arguments. I think the Joe Louis that comes out aggressive - with his explosive punching power - had a real chance to take Bowe out. The Louis of Baer, Sharkey and Schmeling 2.
The older Louis of the 1940s would have problems with that measured stalking patient way he operated against Bowe who is much bigger and liked to let his hands go.
Louis by far the superior all time great but Bowe is much bigger and for all his flaws was a good offensive fighter.

Ouch! You don't half like to hang your chin out to the mods, don't you? You've been booted and rebooted more often than my 10 year old desktop. What happened to the new, chilled out you?

Put the 'ar ' before 'soul'. Let me know if you need any more.

Riddick Bowe at his very best. Best condition Bowe had pretty good shot to defeat Louis because of his combination of size, coordination, skillset, power. Riddick could box, he had nice jab at 6-5 that could bother Joe. He also had one of the great trainers in Eddie Futch who was good friends with Joe Louis.
Just saying Bowe would have a strong gameplan going in. Louis had an advantage in quickness of hand but Bowe wasn't slow himself. On the inside Bowe would also surprise Louis with his infighting acumen.
For a tall heavyweight 6-5 or better he was the best inside.
Joe Louis had a tough chin as proven over the course of 15+ years at the top of the division. One thing Joe doesn't get credit for was his recovery ability. It was exceptional like Ali or Robinson.
I'm gonna take Bowe by decision with a knockdown.

He knew Louis from the Brewster coming up as kids. Futch sparred many round with Joe Louis. Eddie was a lightweight. He always said Joe was underrated for his ring IQ. He was a smart boxer.
