Now that GGG/Canelo is off I think it's finally time we see GGG vs. Andre Ward, as Canelo's replacement. Ward was already hinting of a comeback before anyway and this fight has been long in the making. Now is the perfect opportunity, I'm sure they can agree on a weight. The Triple God vs. The Son of God, The fight of the Century.
I thought Ward was fighting Joshua ?? Cycling his way up to cruiser last I heard and was going to make a big announcement. He's probably 50lb heavier than GGG now anyway
He could still come down I'm sure, Ward's natural weight class is 168, so I think GGG can make 168 too. I could see GGG stopping Ward late on TKO, Kovalev was able to knock him down with ease.
Ward left SMW after years of avoiding the GGG fight, because he did not want to harm his legacy by getting beaten up by a smaller man. No way he will EVER fight GGG, he can't probably do even weight anymore and he must be relieved. Fighting Kovalev was a great choice because he was always overrated (best win prime Cleverly who got beaten by Fonfara, down against Caparello, couldn't do in 12 rounds what Smith Jr. did in 8, looked terrible against Chilemba and arguably even lost the fight). If Ward gets back, it will be a big money fight against Bellew in the UK, maybe on an AJ undercard.
1 flash knock down where he got up straight away with a smile that never hurt him and kovalev was never able to repeat it again in 2 fights but was able to knock him down with ease lol ok.
GGG fans wouldn't like this. They don't like it when you mention the possibility of GGG fighting Ward.
This fight could've happened already. Somebody didn't want to back up his hype, however, so Ward went and faced a real beast from the east instead. The end.
I think we all know what would happen. Ward would win in a very ugly fight employing a very ugly style and then we'd hear upset ggg fans banging on about 'personal' referees, judges and commissions. FWIW - I think Kovalev did enough to win the first fight pretty clearly but was also well on his way to losing the second.
I honestly hope I never see Ward in a ring again mate. His style is not my cup of tea. GGG imo 5 yr ago would've hammered him late.
I've never understood the controversy of it all really. I think both fighters themselves were cool with the fight but it was always kinda clear that GGG's team didn't really chase it. And to be honest, going up a weight to fight not only the number 1 in that division but one of the top fighters in the sport (who didn't promise a shitload of money like fighting a Floyd would) is a huge ask, so I don't see the need to berate them for not doing it either. Although I guess it comes down to Sanchez's interviews, the dude really ought not to talk so much.
