It's been a bad year for Cubans in the pro game, with some of the highest-profile and highest-ranked p4p talents all losing - but honestly, Rigondeaux lost to Lomachenko; Barrera lost to Bivol; Pérez lost to Briedis; Ortiz lost to Wilder; Dorticos lost to Gassiev; Rances Barthelemy lost to Relikh; Yunieski González lost to Gvozdyk; and Leduán Barthelemy should've lost to (but got a gift draw and either way got exposed & got a blemish on his record versus) Eduardo Ramírez.

No great shame in any of those, really, is there? Except maybe Rigondeaux's, because of the non-effort and the way he quit...

Yordanis Ugas had an excellent "rebuilding" 2017, as did Yuriorkis Gamboa, and to a lesser extent Alexei Collado.

Plenty of young talent in the pipeline such as Hairon Soccaras (130lb), Luis Garcia (cruiser), Neslan Machado (126lbs), and Leosdan Nuñez (118lbs) who is about to go to Panama City next month hoping to score a BIG upset versus Ricardo "El Matematico" Núñez.

The scene's doing fine, and doesn't hinge on Erislandy Lara...but he is the captain of the ship right now, and he will sail clear through Hurd under blue skies, and the boat won't even be rocked. :deal:

I’ll be in the suite watching a jarret hurd bobblehead show.

Interested to know if the ring will be 16x16?

People talking about Cubans having a terrible 2017-18 only emphasize that they routinely fight tough customers (despite being, well, the "C-side" if there ever was one).

No reason to peel away from picking Lara to win. 116-112 type of scores for Lara is my guess.

Would be a very impressive win if Hurd managed to convincingly take Lara out.

    I'm just messin' with cst.
But I disagree that it will be a smooth sail for Lara.
In order for that to happen, he would have to put out a virtuoso performance, couple with a really flat showing by Hurd.
It's 50-50 on paper, let's see how it transpires in the ring.

I rate Hurd, Lara to get a points win though imo

Why should he need that? Stylistically this is an easier fight on paper for him than Gausha was. Hurd will literally play directly into his eagerly awaiting-to-counter hands.

Like IB said, I don't think Lara will even have to be on top of his game to beat Hurd, Tony Harrison has a terrible gas tank, and is done around the 9th of every fight, and he was schooling him up until then, and Trout while having a decent gas tank usually, he'd been off IIRC for 17 months, and had no warm up, and went all out looking for the KO at an intense pace and beat the breaks off of him or 7 or 8 rounds before gassing. Hurd is tailor made for Lara, and if he paces himself well, which I don't see any real reason why he shouldn't he should decisively outbox Hurd to a one sided decision, or possible late TKO.

Agree. Hurd is just an enhanced SAM Eggington.

Lara should win. Only way I see Hurd being a problem with a high work rate. Thing is who the aggressor will be.

    Lara always catches cold scorecards
If Hurd fails the stop the leak inside the RING I expect Lara to score and escape but IMO this comes down to the judges
I can also see Hurd doing everything to control Lara and cut the ring with his size and land few but glorious heavy punches.
    Going with the young guy

Next time I’ll actually watch the video versus taking CSTs word as gold.
