I agreed with the Washington Post and was one round off from the AP. The fight was not the whitewash the press pretended it to be.

You’d be surprised with what some Mexican people will say. I heard it was close and heard that Chavez beat him in a rematch in Mexico. All my Mexican friends always bet on the Mexican fighter and always claim robbery if they lose. Your right though, anybody who thinks that was even a legit draw doesn’t know what they are looking at.

The mexican boxing fans are the most biased people on the planet i have heard garbage like "Chávez was the greatest of all time" "Chávez was greater than Ali because Julio fought like a macho"
"Chávez is the greatest because the only important thing in a record are the numbers"

Many Mexican fans do display a penchant for subjective, emotion based posts on youtube.

    I guess it's a macho pride thing.

I gave an objective, detailed dissertation on Chavez/Randall I on youtube and many of the responses were profanity filled emotional diatribes.

One has to take that with a grain of salt.

A few free thinking Mexicans admitted Chavez was simply beaten by a man who was clearly the better fighter on that night.

Additionally, many Mexicans even think Jose Luis Ramirez clearly beat Whitaker in their first fight, when most objective observers can see it was a robbery.

So, I am not surprised when some Mexicans state that Whitaker lost the Chavez fight.

They do not seem to understand the concept of "Effective Aggression." They think the guy coming forward should automatically win the fight. They do not seem to understand the subtleties of boxing on any level whatsoever.

If they tried to post on here, they would be taken to school, humiliated, and probably run away after one or two profanity laced diatribes.

    On the subject of sparring...
Three years ago I had the opportunity to work with a guy that was trying to come back from a shoulder injury. He was 14-0 with 10 by ko. He got into boxing after seeing the Toney/Holyfield fight and essentially taught himself to box by studying that fight and the Toney/Barkley fight, and built on that with extensive sparring with just about every big name from 135 to 160. He himself fought at 140.

At one point he was taken to sparring with a guy that was one of the LW champions at the time. My friend was 3-0 after a 2-0 amateur career; when this was relayed to the champ, he was disdainful, made fun of my friend's boxing boots, and said he would run him out of the ring. They started and my friend pointed down at the champ's feet and, when the champ looked down, nailed him with a shot. This was verified by several witnesses.

I've seen video of him sparring with a very prominent guy, some years back, standing in front of the guy and making him miss telling him "you ain't sh!t and you ain't got sh!t" over and over again.

Sounds like he is a dic&. He's lucky the LW champ didn't kick his a$$ after the cheap shot move he pulled.

Actually, the consensus of those present was that the champ was rude and condescending and had it coming. Considering that he had been ridiculing my friend's boxing boots because they were rather worn, falling for the old "your shoe is untied" okeydoke was thought to be a nice bit of irony.

Sparring isn't usually the equal of what would happen in a fight, Ellis dropped Ali twice in sparring and at times dominated him but would never get a win in a matchup.

I saw Chiquita Gonzalez and Melchor Cob Castro spar twice. They fought for world titles on two occasions and the fights were ok but the sparring sessions were wars. They were friends and often helped one another prepare for fights.
