I remember his fight with Tyson when he was getting mad overhyped

I went to a working mans club with my parents to watch it on PPV and they were playing that annoying "hero" song by m people (gotta love the 90s)

Anyway my dad was a keen boxing fan and said frank would get destroyed but so many brits said he would win.

After that fight british heavyweights were considered to be glass jawed and overrated , and in spite of lennox that rep still kind of lingers.

I dont agree with it, after all the yanks haven't had the top heavyweight in over 21 years while we have had 3 in that time.

I think Americans have always had contempt for British fighters and the European style of fighting, it`s just different cultures, I re-watched the Honeyghan v Curry fight on youtube and the commentators were mentioning a Brit who had fought in a bout shown on their network and he crapped in his fight and the pundit said just because that Brit was so bad don`t assume all Brits will be that bad as if that would of been the natural assumption, Americans often think they are the best at everything but yes Bruno`s history of getting beat in world title fights did do a lot of damage, I have even heard Americans comparing AJ to Bruno which is stupid.

Americans held British heavies in contempt as far back as the 1920’s, mainly due to the efforts of “Phaintin” Phil Scott.

Couldn't care less what the Yanks think.

    Bruno is a certified legend.

Scott was certainly something, but the legend of horizontal British heavyweights dates back even further to the days of Gunner Moir and Bombardier Billy Wells. The latter was renowned for being "all chin from the waist up", which probably accounts for all 11 of his losses being by KO.

Dorothy Parker once said "if all the British heavyweights were laid out end to end...I wouldn't be at all surprised", which pretty much summed up the esteem in which our big boys were held.

We've come a long way since then. If anything Bruno was a catalyst for the present era. His fight with Lewis was a landmark event, where two British heavyweights were able to put on a fight of global rather than just domestic significance.

No the reason why British Fighters are considered a joke Globally and esp in America is because of Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan, and Bruno yes etc Lennox Lewis kept the reputation up, Naseem Hamed until he was humbled by Barrera, then in between that it was garbage

Bruno choked badly in the second fight. Was a bit of a false dawn for Tyson though and he never looked that good again.

The world champs around during Bruno`s era weren`t as good as Parker and couldn`t have dealt with Wilder or Fury`s reach, Tyson after he sacked Rooney wasn`t as good as these guys, Lewis only turned great in the late 90`s while he was champ in the early 90`s he wasn`t good enough to compete now, Holyfield and Bowe were the only great offensive fighters during Bruno`s active years and Bowe`s defense would have let him down against AJ plus Bruno never fought either of these guys, even an old George Foreman might of beaten Frank because he managed to stop a far smoother Moore who was the only other decent heavy during that eras but had no chin.

A lot of American fans feel Bruno was crap! I`m not American but Bruno lost time and again and was knocked out 5 times! That`s awful.
