Degale looked afraid to engage and backtracked 80% of the fight. He refused to fight on the inside, hold for dear life and attempted numerous headbutts. This fight was unwatchable and much of the responsibility lies with the horrible refereeing of Byrd, who let Degale get away with everything he pleased. I believe Jack ruined Degale: he's become fresh meat for the young lions; even Eubank Jr beats him at this point.
Not in the least, I had it 114-113 Truax, and almost everyone le in the RBR had it in the vicinity of a draw. He looked like ****, he's done at the top level, he needs to retire before he gets badly hurt. And make no mistake, Uzcategui, Callum Smith and Benavidez disembowel him.
Degale is faded yes but he won this one. Groves would beat him again though. Degale has earned his stripes though.. Groves, Dirrell, Bute, Jack, Truax, Zuniga... He's done a lot of it abroad too. Plus he won gold. Give the guy his props ..
The gold had a touch of fortune about it and he hasn't looked good for a long time now. He gets tooled by any top 5 fighter.
Uzcategui and Benevidez decapitate him. Degale will probably bring the belt back to the UK and try to milk it until another cherry pick goes wrong.
DeGale is clearly a spent force at the top level. If anything he overachieved for me, I never expected him to do much when he turned pro. He should avoid a 3rd fight with Truax if he wants to keep his belt, no guarantee he wins it and he can't keep having tough fights like this. I expect a lot of people to target him, they may see it as an easy way to a belt.
I'd imagine that eye had to have affected him greatly, and it happened so early in the fight. I didn't think he should've been deducted in the 10th round for that shoulder maneuver, so all in all I thought he eked out a competitive decision. It's hard to assess his current level after last night's performance given the injury he sustained so early on. But he did win his title back, so it's not like it was that abysmal of a performance. If anything, he showed a lot of heart while trucking through the last 10 rounds with that bad cut.
He wasnt good. Im sure i remember DeGale prefering to work at his jabs reach and moving a hell of alot. Both fights against Truax its been like im watching a different fighter. A **** one.
Stick a fork in his belly....He's done as a top level fighter. Finished Groves, Eubank, Coxx Smith alll brutally send him down to hell if they were to fight.
I was very disappointed in both men. the first fight was very entertaining the rematch was a shoving match neither guy did much of anything but I think degale came on when it mattered and truax down the stretch i felt was the one looking to hold on
Too many injuries Degale. Am 100% certain that his shoulder is still a massive issue, he was never a huge puncher as it was but looks like no pop at all anymore.
Yikes, I tried watching this morning, what a dire fight. I think James needs to hang up his gloves. He's had a lot of wars and taken punishment. He no longer looks the fighter he was. I give him credit for travelling overseas and facing tough opposition, but it looks like it took its toll. Over these two fights he's made a limited fighter look better than he actually is. He's won his belt back, so he can retire as a champion. That's a fitting end to a good career.
Is he still with the same trainer? Does he still voluntarily give ground, wander to the ropes and take a battering there? If so, it just means he has the same old flaws, and a good trainer can correct some of them.
