I got the impression by that time George was just taking a victory lap. Big George was a Lot of things but he wasn't foolish. Lewis would have been a bad night for him
Great point. I didn’t know this info. Luckily for Foreman, the fight never happened as I believe any version of Holmes is wrong for any version of Foreman. As someone stated in their post, Old Foreman was very smart in his opponent selection. Even more so in staying away from the Old Holmes.
I disagree , in 1976 a green larry was not ready for foreman who had fought and did beat every top fighter except ali. Prime vs prime you could make a solid argument for both fighters. Larry got hurt badly by lesser fighters than foreman. If george hurts larry like shavers, weaver or snipes did then it is all over for holmes because foreman was a much better finisher.of course in favor of holmes you can make the classic argument that larry would box and survives early and then foreman would get tired late but this never convinced me because holmes had the wrong habit to go to the war against the wrong guy, he took many risks he was not like young
If we talk about 90 foreman vs 90 holmes i go with foreman and 100%. Larry lost his footwork and he was nothing but an old,fat stylist the age was a bigger enemy for larry's style than it was for foreman's.george was strong, now he was more patient, got more stamina and his chin was made of iron.foreman wins being the aggressor
In post #38 of the below thread 5 years ago you used this quote in somewhat different terms. What exactly was said again? Does it just get better and more dramatic each time? Make it up as you go along? You started the post with almost the exact same disparaging remarks too, not even born etc etc https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...tentions-to-face-george-foreman.473766/page-3
Mike Tyson to Don King. "If you love that mutha fcuker so much you fight him!" I think it's safe to say Mike Tyson wanted no part of George Foreman.
The 80s Tyson made a living cracking iron chins... Holmes Thomas Tubbs Etc Foreman at 39 years old would have been a sitting duck. He never beat anyone even remotely close to a peak mike Tyson. Tyson’s fast hands would have found their mark and left a lot of damage before foreman could even recoup to get set to punch. Would be a massacre
Foreman had much better chin than all these guys son. Holmes in 1988 was just meat.larry said that he had no time to train for tyson because they told.him about it in the last moment and larry said yes for the big money. Tyson only had to attack him and he was not worried about getting hurt himself..with foreman it would be a different history a single hand could change the fight ,tyson never fought a fighter that strong who could hit that hard. Tommy morrison said on a interview that he did not expect that foreman was that strong and that did hit that hard, morrison could stop ruddock with a single shot he changed the fight but foreman took everything from him.morrison did hit harder than tyson and it was said by pinklon thomas...
We have to agree to disagree here as an Old Holmes had good enough legs to beat up Mercer and hang with a motivated McCall. Not saying Holmes wins 10 of 10, but he at least wins half.
Old Larry was no walk in the park for a peak Tyson ,despite the record showing KO4. Holmes’s Old legs and judge of distance failed him quite early and it still took Tyson a few rounds to check his chin.
It was one of Tyson's better showings of many. Holmes still had that experience, durability, great recovery and canniness when in trouble. Tyson was very patient and disciplined in this one against a way past it but still awkward Holmes.
Holyfield landed a 20 punch combination on Foreman. If Tyson was in that position I see George getting stopped on his feet in round 7. I know a lot of knowledge boxing fans that think Tyson had no chance and it bemuses me. Tyson would bash him up throughout the fight. George would have size and physicality but would also be taking a lot of punishment while "walking Tyson around". Mike wouldn't be there to ballroom dance, he would be landing on the inside and would slip old Forman's slow counters. Tyson had too much energy, speed and power at that point and would just overwhelm George.
I see your point but the problem is that noway tyson would land all these shots in the foreman chin like evander did, holyfield in 1991 (probably was on roids) was a total beast and was better than any version of mike, evander was as fast but much taller with longer reach with a different style he was moving inside and outside constantly and tyson did not fight like that, plus evander had iron chin and a mental strength and huge heart that mike only could dream with. tyson would be bobbing and weaving but he would be in the dangerous distance side to side definitely he would not avoid every heavy shot from george.foreman fought bigger punchers than tyson but tyson did not face bigger punchers than foreman
