Phil ********* wasn't keen. Ray Arcel used to torture him, basically.

Max Baer is the first guy that pops into my head. If he trained more diligently, he could have been an ATG, imo.

Young had it after the Norton decision. He started the abuse after that. My friend was a friend and occasional sparring partner for Jimmy

The Francis and Duff books go into it. Amazing career considering the things he did and more importantly, didn't do.

How did he even get as far as he did. Couple of decent wins on his resume etc. Guy looks useless....and not a bit interested to boot.

You may have hit on multiple issues that may all be true in one way or another Russell. I suspect that he trained better before the Norton travesty...you know, he just kinda went through the motions after that. I'd also like some insight into whether other defensive geniuses like Nicolino Locche and even Wilfred Benitez were really gung ho into all aspects of training...you know, they were all three such specialists...maybe that's all they thought was necessary to "home in" on "whilst" in training.
Jimmy indulged in smoking Kool cigarettes and drinking wine after he got screwed over that one time too many, I've read.

Yes Jimmy did in fact smoke Kool's and liked a cold Miller after a workout according to my pal. He trained Hard up until the Norton fight. After that ..ehh
