At what age did Povetkin start boxing? By the way I've seen the Wilder knockout and it's nothing outrageous. The way people talk about it you'll think the Russian put him in comatos but that's not the case.
In his late teens / early 20's. It doesn't change the fact that Wilder was dropped heavily by a 6 foot 0 cruiser weight and was shaking, stunned and stumbling all over the ring physically with his legs unsteady after taking Romanov's punches, who isn't even the most powerful puncher. And all of that was with head gear on! And that happened in only the second round. Wilder was protected from further embarrassment in that bout.
Be specific, at what age did Povetkin start boxing........he damn sure didn't start at his late teens..............wilder started at 19. Any sign of hurt, ref are bound to stop a fight in an amateur competition.......check Lewis vs Bowe.
Povetkin started boxing in 1992, at the age of 12 or 13 (it's not specified on his Russian Wikipedia page - https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Поветкин,_Александр_Владимирович). In 1995 he won Gold Medal at the Russian Youth championship. Of course, it doesn't change the fact that Wilder was stopped in 2 rounds by a small Russian guy, but Wilder was a novice when he was KO'ed by Romanov, while Povetkin had tons of experience in 2001 (9 years in amateur boxing and kickboxing), when Ukrainian fighter Oleksiy Mazikin kicked his ass at the World Championship in Belfast. Mazikin went on to become a pro boxer with a "great" 14-13-2 (4 KOs) record.
Leave your nationalistic nonsense elsewhere please! The Universe doesn't give two cents about it. Anyway, Povetkin was a kickboxer before he became a proper amateur boxer. So his full amateur boxing career started in his late teens. Some time after age 17. He's been fighting much bigger men from a relatively young age, but has still never been stopped by anybody like how Wilder has.
He was a full-time amateur boxer from 1992 to 1997. He didn't turn to kickboxing until 1997. If you don't know Russian language, use Google translate and read his Russian Wikipedia page. And Povetkin was fighting in the heavyweight (up to 91 kg or 200 lbs) division until 2001. He wasn't fighting huge super-heavyweights in his teens.
