    Can't stomach Jim Parsons or Mayim Bialik, and only liked Johnny Galecki on Roseanne, its too nerdy for me, I prefer my nerds a little more clichéd, a la Revenge Of The Nerds.

    Yep.

    Also, the league would lose something if @CST80 wasn't around to pick the big upsets :lol:

    How much American comedy have you seen? I'll agree, American comedy over the last two decades, both in film and on TV, has been in the pits, you know you're in bad shape when the best comedy duos we can produce are Vaughn and Wilson alongside Rogan and Franco.:lol: But comedy pre-2000 was hard ro beat, SNL used to be amazing, Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, John Candy, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Dan Ackroyd, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, Gene Wilder, hell even Rob Schneider is better than guys like Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey. I must admit, I do like Sandler for some reason.

    Have you seen Stripes, Ghostbusters, The Burbs, Beetlejuice, Coming to America, Trading Places, National Lampoon Vacation movies, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Porky's, Meatballs, Police academy films, Fletch, Revenge Of The Nerds, Breakfast Club, Crocodile Dundee, Gremlins???

    If you haven't, seek them out immediately.

    Same goes with our sitcoms from the 80's and 70's, I know you're temperament, All In The Family and Married With Children were made for you.:D

    Glad I could help, I've been meaning to get around to the Wire for quite some time, and I fully plan to, also have as @Dfaulds mentioned The Punisher, Six Feet Under and Westworld on the short list.

    As a warning, the first season of True Detective is stand alone, and one of the finest shows ever produced for television, the second season is a new set of characters and story, and not even a pimple on the ass of the first one, but decent, so you can watch season 1 by itself and forget the second altogether, just view the first season as a miniseries instead.

    Big Love is one of the most underrated shows flat out, and its painful the show was ignored by most, its about polygamists trying to make it in the modern world, and not white trash like those scummy people on Sister Wives either, Bill Paxton and Tripplehorn, Sevigny and Goodwin all seem like the genuine article, they truly capture the feel of real life polygamists, but the show is an acquitted taste.

    Another great 30 minute show I forgot to mention, they depending on whether or not you like foot ball or horror, check out Ballers on HBO and Ash vs. The Evil Dead on Starz. Both amazing, and easy to watch fun shows.

    The theme for Ballers is great.

    Depends on the era, TV comedy in the US from the 50's to the early 90's was untouchable, but its been hurdling down the crapper in a loop ever since.

    Maybe I should do a series of Educate Yourselves threads in the Lounge on all the old actors from back in the day, that would only take me a few years.:lol: Its not that hard to rack up numbers like that like everyone who binge watches TV series now, I used to binge watch movies at night when I was on summer vacation from school, and still get in nights here and there when I can. I'm Tarantino level movie nerd.

    Here's the actress from my avatar, this is from 1930 in a film called A Free Soul, its every bit as modern as Sex & The City, even Norma Shearer's highly sensual acting, it was so modern in fact, the conservatives in the country demanded censorship, so they introduced the Hay' code to rid films of anything even vaguely sexual or suggestive, and in the process ruined everything film could have been up until the 60's when they finally did away with it and introduced the MPAA.

    @CST80

    How have you missed 24 from your list?

    24 is the single greatest TV series known to man.

    GOT, WD, Lost, BB, Wire they're all great but 24 was another level.

    regarding comedies there is only one show that is truly number 1 and will always remain at number 1 and thats Only Fools and Horses. the word genius is overused too much nowadays, but that show and John Sullivan were pure genius
