He's ducking, because Finkle hasn't snatched Hearn's hand off? It's business. Unfortunately, these fights take a long time to make. It baffles me how people are reacting. This is just the start of negotiations. The first tactic is to throw something out in the media. Things will progress in the coming weeks. It's the biggest fight in the division. An offer doesn't publicly go out on a Monday to be accepted by Tuesday. They will meet face to face on more than one occasion to reach a compromise and discuss the specifics. We're talking here about millions of dollars.
Yeah this is true. Joshua could have 99 belts to Wilder's 1, doesn't mean Joshua would then deserve 99% of the purse. The number of titles is irrelevant. Fact is Parker had and Wilder has something Joshua and Hearn want. There is an intrinsic value to that and Wilder knows this, he'll never have another opportunity to cash out like this, he won't waste it by accepting less than Parker got. Joshua's ambition comes with a price, if you want to fight the best and unify it means stumping up the cash to do so. The alternative is to do what Wilder has done, sit on a belt, pay peanuts and then of course get weak opposition like Molina, Duhaupas and Washington to defend against. It sucks but life isn't fair.
How does he deserve less of a percentage than Parker, when the fight would generate significantly more money?
Yes. In a fair world Joshua should now have faced the winner of Parker/Wilder. But no. He had to collect all them belts one by one for himself... Wilder is a scared fraud. Avoided Klitschko Parker and Joshua and now out of suddenly he has the opportunity to either unify or cash out.
Compared to his other purses, it's a great deal of money. But this sport is also a ruthless business. And Shelly Finkle is going to exploit the situation and hold out for a better deal for his fighter.
Agreed the histrionics from fans on both sides is idiotic, especially as we just went through the same thing with Joshua/Parker a few months ago. Same accusations of ducking, same accusations of low balling etc.
Unfortunately, in today's era, the above is pretty much irrelevant. The only relevant issue here, is how much the fight is going to realistically generate. It will generate significantly more than the Parker fight.
That part isnt disputed. On the same standing Wilder cannot become undisputed without Joshuas 3 titles. Not 1 like wilder has but 3 and that there is the massive difference. Wilder needs Joshua more than the other way around in that situation And Joshua is by far the bigger name. The PPV fighter. the fighter with the greater fan base, the fighter with 3 titles, the fighter who has engaged in 2 unifications already. Your own argument gets completely ruined by what you said yourself. Its like say if Mayweather came out of retirement to fight a champion, you can almost guarantee that Floyd would get by far the bigger pot. In this case that is what you have here with Joshua as well as holding the majority of the titles Its Wilder who has it all to take or pass on. Joshua has already established a legacy as a unified champ holding 3 of the titles. It is if Wilder wants to take the same risks and if he does Wilder has no more to lose than usual whereas Joshua now has another title to add to what he could lose. Its on Wilder who would be getting a career high payday and a chance to scoop 3 titles in a night, where Joshua had to fight 3 nights to get them. Wilder could be in top position if he wins and there is a returen Thats it. Its a win win for Wilder as if he wins he gets all the titles and has monopoly. If he loses he has made a career high payday and both situations are all in one night. For Joshua he now has more to lose over what would have been even more nights work
It would be great for boxing if that fight does happen before the end of next year and if Wilder can get a few big wins
