Amir Mansour is an old man just wanting a heavyweight title shot. I can't begrudge these dudes like him and Briggs looking to juice or take trt to make a payday.

Amir Mansour's positive is for "a recreational drug" so we will have to see if it was a sanctioned use or not

I dunno if this is true ^ If so he smoked some weed. Woop de doo.

You can't excuse fighters cheating based on their age, else you could find justifications for anything. If you're too old to compete without taking huge, obvious levels of PEDs then you should dial down your doses or bow out gracefully.

Regarding recreational drugs, if they're prohibited by WADA then they're still illegal. No woop de doo about it.

I disagree. Boxing is all those guys have. Some boxers are allowed TUE's anyway but some cannot due to health insurance issues. Briggs got caught for elevated testosterone. A lot of guys need testosterone cypionate or enanthate as they get older anyway. It wouldn't greatly affect performance. WADA/USADA are overkill on what supplements are allowed and what are not.

There's no hardened, true evidence PED's affect performance dramatically. It's mostly negligible differences. Nearly all top athletes are on some kind of performance enhancing drug.

Testosterone replacement therapy should be excused with older fighters. It's not cheating if they need TRT.

I mean fighters are human, too. I think they should be allowed to smoke some weed from time to time. Nick Diaz got banned from MMA by NSAC for like 2 or 3 years or so for smoking some weed. It's ridiculous.

He should try to see if he can cut down to cruiserweight as the heavyweight division isn't bumland like it was 10 years ago, the belts are held by young killers. He's only about 220 lbs so he could do it.

His inactivity the last some odd years has been maddening. Just one of those fighters, like Tony Thompson, who isn't going to consistently get "good" fights and money until he's no longer anything approaching a fresh force.

How is that remotely workable in practice though? What is your benchmark for normalcy and how do you go about determining who is allowed to receive what and in what doses? What is stopping unscrupulous doctors from dosing up their fighters then excusing it as a necessary adjunct to their day to day life? The whole thing would be a nightmare to formulate and police.

Sports are never going to be an even playing field. If older fighters can't get by without dosing themselves up with obviously enormous quantities of PEDs like Briggs then too bad -- they should receive the same penalties as any other drug cheat. If they can use their age and a compliant doc to swing a TUE for test replacement or whathaveyou then good for them; no one's the wiser.

Boxing doesn't owe anyone a living though. You do what you can get away with and face the music when you can't.

As a professional athlete you should have a much greater control over what goes into your body than an average person. That includes the use of recreational drugs. I don't agree with some of the penalties such athletes get, but I do agree that if you are found to have broken the rules you need to receive punishment. To do otherwise sets the ball rolling for further abuses down the line. It's an issue which necessitates a hard line attitude.
