At least he should be since Canelo has now been disgraced. I wonder if Canelo's popularity takes a hit or if the controversy actually makes him more marketable.

In any case, 50/50 should be the very worst case got Golovkin if they do a rematch.

    Clenelo is still the A-side

You're right though Clenelo's fan base took a massive hit. KingRy rebounded them though

I dunno, man. Clen NEEDS Golovkin to clear his name. Golovkin doesn't ever have to fight Clen again considering that most people had him as the clear winner.

If Clen KO'd or dominated Golovkin in the rematch, people would say that Golovkin got old, but the PED association would be considerably distanced, though never forgotten. And the contaminated meat excuse would hold more weight.

Clen needs Golovkin to (mostly) clear his name.

    Huh?

Clen received the lion's share of the money.

Clen stepped onto the scale second and entered the ring second.

Clen got top billing both times.

Golovkin was never the A-side despite holding all but one belt and being seen as the winner of the first match in the eyes of 99% of the people.

Curious. Has this whole thing dented Canelo’s popularity in Mexico or the Mexican American community?

I wouldn't be surprised if Canelo never fights Golvokin again after this

I really thought his brand would suffer more than it did from the less than brave performance he put on vs Floyd and his dumping the wbc belt rather than face ggg initially

there aren't an abundance of popular crossover Mexican stars currently ready to take the reigns and typically stars get preferential treatment in circumstances ordinary fighters don't get

while I like GGG more and don't buy the meat story and didn't like Canelos behavior before or after the first fight I think he is still going to be a side and when push comes to shove the Mexican fans will get behind him in the rematch or in whatever fight he pursues next.

Eh, I don't really pay attention to any of that stuff, guess maybe you're right. I'm not the "subscribe to Elie Seckbach" kind of boxing fan. :nusenuse:

I am a Golovkin fan (of course, Im from Kazakhstan) but Canelo still makes at least 500K PPV with anyone (hate does not mean anything, Floyds PPV numbers were so high because most of the people wanted to see him get knocked out), and the fact that HBO puts up 1 million dollar for a GGG fight in Cinco de Mayo, that tells everything. Against Jacobs and Lemieux he did 150-180K on 60 dollar PPV. Even a fight with BJS would not do more than 300K. BJS does not have that big fan base in UK what most people think.

If Team Golovkin wants the rematch, De La Hoya is going to dictate, and after the (stupid) trashtalk from Gennady and Abel they cant expect a lot...

And in another thread I already explained that the rematch probably will not happen, or if it happens its 2019 September.
