    Just a brief glimpse into Sals greatness...watch 6:54 Mark..Laporte slips and jab and lands a monster right hand..sal not only takes the punch without budging...but he stays calm and cool enough to slip a follow up left hook and deliver a picture perfect counter left hook on Laporte. Then uses his incredible footwork to slip out of range from another combination by laporte..

    I’m convinced on a couple things

    1. Sanchez had an iron chin

    2. Sanchez is one of the few fighters in history who kept his perfect technique and composure after getting hit by a big shot. He had this uncanny ability to always stay calm when he was in trouble, and immediately get himself out of trouble. Other fighters panic, swing wildly, hang on for dead life...not sal.

    What a beast....truly one of the best fighters I have ever seen on film

    Here Sal beats a very very good fighter in Laporte who went on to win the world title and give Pedroza and Chavez very difficult fights

    Great post, my man. LaPorte is on record saying Chava was the best he ever fought, and Juan fought EVERYONE.

    Ruben Castillo also says Chavez is the best he fought. Ruben gave Sanchez a very hard fight.

    Lovely, lovely fighter. Reminds me of one of my other favourite fighters, McCallum. Both had great skill, compusure, iron chin and willingness to stay in the pocket even though neither had a devastating punch or ultra fast hands.

    It's been years since I've seen this, very good fight in general. Laporte gave a very good account of himself imho despite losing cleanly and hadn't quite hit his prime. This was back when he actually bothered to throw punches. He was a bit more seasoned against Pedroza and gave an even better account of himself, he was talented and an excellent fighter when focused and bothering to try.

    Excellent performance from Sal really highlighting what he did best against a formidable opponent who came at him.

    Sanchez must've been a horrible fighter to face if you depended on power, liked to fight on the front and/or especially if you could be discouraged over a period of time. Like being stuck in a bad dream against the Terminator or something with all your effort to stop and hurt him just being coolly brushed to one side with zero emotion and a complete inability to inflict any damage against the steady but inexorable forward movement. Delaying the inevitable basically.

    Yeah, also Castillo was past his prime when he fought Chavez in 85. Sanchez beat a prime Castillo, the same man who took Alexis Arguello 10 grueling rounds.

    There’s no fighter I enjoy watching more than Sanchez. Been looking at some of his greatest hits lately. Thanks for posting another to add to the list.
