An Ali that didn't dance & jab while circling his opponent. Take this away but leave all his other characteristics, how much difference does that play in his career?

So you mean he has the same natural ability but uses a more conventional style?

Basically yes. More like the quick handed Ali that beat Foreman. I imagine Ali takes way more punishment and maybe is worn out before 1974.

I'd imagine he'd develop his defence to block more punches if he was more conventional though.

Archie Moore had Clay/Ali when he was just out of the Olympics. It didn' work out but Archie had stated that he wanted to teach Ali to punch and not dance and move. Moore felt it would have shortened a lot of his fights. Maybe not taken as much punishment in the long run.

I think Ali would have been successful even down off his toes. He had so much talent.

No, he would of looked a lot worse in his fights and may of lost, the only reason Ali won the rumble was the rope a dope and the heat it simply wouldn`t of worked that well vs a lot of his opponents,, one of Ali`s great gifts was his ability to judge distance his head was almost out of range all the time as he moved so he`d slip shots with a little movement of his head all that would be ruined him just standing there and he would of shipped a lot hooks from Cooper, in their second fight Ali shed weight to get down to 214lbs for more foot speed so he wouldn`t have been caught again by the hook, I feel Cooper would of beaten Ali if he stood in front of him, Liston also. Ali stood in front of Frazier a lot in their first fight and payed the price.

Take away the dancing, and you've still got a rock-solid chin, sharp reflexes, ring savvy, and a still-terrific jab that he has to learn to set up without dancing and circling his opponent ... he'd adapt the same way he did when he got older and largely lost the ability and mobility he exploited so fully when he was younger. His fights would be tougher, and he might lose one or two more, but he was far from a one-dimensional fighter ... plenty of tools in his toolbox.

I think Ali would adapt, as he brought a lot of weaponry both offensive and defensive to the battle, physically, psychologically and bravery.

I am sure the fights would be different style wise, but feel Ali would still beat the opponents that he did.

If he didn't learn to block a left hook, many more of his opponents would land their own big punches on Ali.

I think for sure he might not beat Liston. Liston hadn't seen movement like that, Sonny was inches away from taking Ali's head off in the first fight.

Ali often didn't dance in his fights and still did just fine.
