Prime Tyson took a good shot & would land more on Tua because of speed, Could Tua KO what he could hit, YES, would it be impossible NO but just like the IKE fight Tyson had good wiskers & 12 rd stamina as did Tua Dangerous fight but Tyson upper head & body movement & hand speed may keep Tua at bay. I remember the Lewis fight & a good right hand by Lewis kept Tua at an honest distance & less than reckless.
I voted Tua as I'm assuming this isn't prime for prime but a fight taking place when it could've most realistically been made (late 90s- early 00s). I think that version of Tua outlasts that Tyson for another come from behind KO win.
Tyson's handlers (under Con King) didn't want Tua just like they didn't want Foreman. As both Foreman & Tua called Tyson out. 1. When Tua got cracked by Lennox, he fought the whole fight across the ring, I was amazed and saddened. Maybe Ike took something out of him? I mean Rahman got a late drop last second, second fight. 2. If we do look at both at peak- the key for me is Tyson under Rooney. Even though Cus was his original trainer it was Rooney from about 11 fights on. 3. That was the switch hitting, head weaving -body-to-head with the patented left hook to the body, uppercut to the head. No way could Tua avoid that. JUst look at how hunched he always is, when coming in. Can't correct that in a fight. It's exciting, grueling , but Rooney was way too good at correcting Tyson from round to round. They'd take Tua apart coming in, plus Tua's pwer was in winging his shot. They're looped , bowed whatever U call it, not straight, so Tyson beats him time and time again. I got Tyson. Without Rooney? Tyson is taken to ICU.
I see the ref stopping it in about round 8 or 9 with Tua struggling to defend himself against prime Tyson. A protesting Tua, but saved from himself.
Even the post prison version of Tyson, could very likely force Tua into a mid range exchange. I don't think that post prison Tyson was literally incapable of going twelve rounds. It is fair to say that the version that lost to Holyfield first time, could have done so against a lesser opponent.
86-88 mike knocks out tua. Tyson was the far superior boxer, better combination puncher, accuracy, two fisted power, and handspeed. Tua was also somewhat of a mental midget. When he got hit, he went into survival mode. The first combination tua takes..he’s retreating into his shell..and staying away. Tyson eventually again would find his mark later in the fight. Tuas style plays right into mikes hands. Mike could crack tuas iron chin. Mike was possibly the greatest finisher in boxing history. He had a punching arsenal designed to crack the best chins in the business
Post prison Tyson repeatedly accomplished something that Tua never could. He beat opponents ranked in the top en by Ring Magazine! Tua simply was not this head to head monster, that many people see him as!
What does it have to do with anything? Watch Tyson vs Mathis, because this is the way this fight will be fought. Rest of the information will tell you Tua was not the guy who fall flat on his ass with some shots like Mathis did. Combine both and you can recognize Tyson will be in trouble here. Regarding ranked opponents: Tyson of course got title shots much easier than Tua anyway. I see Tua beating Bruno in 96 as well.
I agree Tua wasn`t a head to head monster. He had his own shortcomings. You referenced the first Holyfiled fight and Tyson was awful in that bout. He had lost his fluidity. His speed was gone and his stamina long gone. Mike actually tried to quit much earlier than Holyfield stopped him. Tyson could probably go 1 10 or 12 rounds if he had a willing opponent. Tua may actually cooperate with him and they may lay on each other. It may suprise in the sense of how boring the fight could be. Tyson had more talant but his head was always a quesiton mark
Yup. Like vs Lewis. Tyson would then proceed to use his jab and win on points in a much less brutal fight than you would think. They go at it hard for the first 2 rounds but Tua would shut down because he would be intimidated by Tyson's speed and explosiveness and Tyson would proceed to do jab, wrestle and do just enough to win the rest of the rounds after having felt David's strength.
I think that Tyson was ready to be taken at the time of the Holyfied fight, but I also question whether Tua would be the man to do it.
I think that is a lot to infer from the Mathis fight, all two and a bit rounds of it. Even the post prison version of Tyson was beating more credible opposition than a prime Tua. That should tell you a lot about how they compare.
Are you sure? You have to take losing efforts into account as well. Who do you think Tyson beat post prison who was at high relevance at the time? I have one person in mind and thats it. You´ll find them in Tua´s resume as well.
