Why is Canelo getting a much harder time than other PED cheats?

I'm not by the way defending Canelo, and if I had my way he'd be banned for life.

But there are other guys who seem to be getting off a lot more lightly in their condemnation. Even given a free ride sometimes. The Furys, Ortiz, Povetkin, Vitali Klitschko, Roy Jones Jr, James Toney, Francis Botha, Vargas, Mosley.

And a lot more that I have missed off, but all the above have failed drug tests.

Okay, some guys are more high profile than others, and *occasionally* some people do mention their failed tests, but with the Canelo failed drug test the whole boxing world seems to be particularly outraged about it, when they haven't been for past boxers or even recent boxers.

Personally, I think minimum, MINIMUM, they should all have an asterisks next to all their achievements.

Its all about the name.. hes a big name.. Only ting hes having it hard is though the media though cause all he got was a slap on the wrist.. Also it seemed kinda weird how his physique changed.. And people are tired of all these high profile athletes getting away with BS like this.. So they used him as an example.

I dunno about that. I think Povetkin and Tyson Fury get plenty of flak for recent PED issues. It gets mention every time. Many people here want Fury's name erased from the records, and Povetkin is often called "PEDvetkin" around here.

Others tend to get a pass. James Toney seems to get major love from the fans but he's probably one of the most severe steroid users in boxing history.

I have no problem with any of them particularly.

You're right of course. A lot of people were ready to attack the only journalist who was prepared to ask Fury an even halfway difficult question on his return.

There's probably several factors that are increasing the reaction. The main one is that its in the build up to Alvarez Golovkin II - and a lot of people, myself included, feel Alvarez was the beneficiary of underhand dealings in the first fight. This compounds the injustice, particularly if, as seems likely, he was cheating in the first fight also.

The second has been the disgraceful antics of the WBC and others.

Third the pathetic slap on the wrist carefully timed not to hinder the rescheduled fight.

Fourth. Oh I don't want to go on!

When you are the face of boxing it comes with greater paydays
    Home advantage
Pre written cards just in case
And a whole lot irresponsibility better have big enough shoulders for the s hit storm coming
And he should be concerned with what just happened with wilder sas a in court
his last court case stunk and this ped usage stinks
stinky rotten fighter is the face of boxing
As said clenelo and the wbc need investigating asap

When you're the so called face of boxing , in your 20's and have to take peds against a much older dude...its not a good look

But people will slowly forget about this like they did in the past
    Its still fresh

That wasn't what I meant. Obviously a 6 month ban is a joke.

It is the general condemnation I am talking about, from ex-boxers, analysts, promoters, fans on here etc. Which is cool. He deserves the condemnation. But other guys fail a test, like someone else mentioned, Fury for example, where he has had condemnation too, but he also gets a more than significant amount of people defending him or wishing him well in his fight to clear his name with UKAD. And one or two of the guys I mentioned in the OP, have had a free ride altogether, where it barely ever gets a mention.

At least the one thing you can say in other sports, like athletics, is when a guy does fail a test, they are widely condemned. But there is a lot of inconsistency when it comes to the boxing media and boxing fans.

There are several different dynamics at play. The first thing that comes to my mind with Clenelo is his smugness, petulant diva ways. It’s his hubris. Along with his serpent-in-fishnets promoter. Alvarez has been foisted on fans as the face and savior of boxing since he was a teenager and he never really has lived up to the hype. He’s been good to very good, but not great. The wbc’s idolatry of him, the corrupt officiating, the catch weights, while waiting out Golovkin until he got older and then the 118-110 score card was just too much. Add to that the built in excuse of Mexican beef and then threatening to never fight in Nevada again.
Even though you listed many other fighters that tested positive they aren’t apples to apples comparisons. Clenelo is the perfect storm of hubris in a fighter with a pro wrestling sense of politics and theater.

Fury hasn't fought in over 2 years. The man just got his license, so how is that a fare comparison.
