Amir Khan: Pugilistically challenged?

No, Khan does not have a low ring IQ, he starts out well, is very fast, hits hard, but loses focus around the mid to late rounds..................if he could fight all 12 rounds like he does early, he would be a champion once again............

 

If he is punching harder now post-operation we can probably expect to see more 1sr round knockdowns like we used to see earlier in his career.

 

He's simply not very smart inside or outside of the ring. We saw that when he was on the reality show "I'm a celebrity". Then there's the numerous times he been caught cheating on his wife, the very public fight on social media where he accused his wife of sleeping with AJ. The time he got done for speeding then a few weeks later did it again and seriously hurt someone. He clearly doesn't think things through and that's reflected in his approach to boxing.

Khan might be the most naturally gifted fighter to ever come out of the UK, his speed and athleticism is immense, but unfortunately all that talent is wasted on him. It was pretty obvious from very early on he didn't understand the nuances of boxing but more relied on raw natural talent. Like when he lost to Kindelan at the Olympics. He won the first round by boxing and moving, taking away the natural counter punchers ability to counter, then he lost the last 2 rounds by abandoning that and being the aggressor and getting countered. Stupid, he literally through away the gold medal and from then on we've seen him do the same as a pro, make the same mistakes over and over again.

 

Look at the way he comes out, always a fast start, always looking to just get off without really studying his man, trying things out or taking notes of the reactions he gets. His gift of speed was nurtured to the detriment of his reading comprehension on his way up. Khan's a pattern fighter, and he'll always struggle to counter-adjust when someone can upset the pattern.

 

It was Kindelan though, he wasn't bang average himself. Imo he gets excited with success far to easy, he even did last night. Its a problem he'll always have, but it makes for great viewing

 

He gets far too much stick on here. He’s a lot better than given credit for.

There’s not much shame in losing to those guys.

I’m intrigued to see who they match him with next as he needs more of a challenge and then you would assume his 3rd fight with Hearn would be a big one, Crawford, Brook, Broner etc.

 

He's been a world level operator, no doubt, capable of beating a bunch of titlist type opposition while falling to some. But there's always been this lingering school of thought that he should be more than that (presumably based on his speed of hand and foot). In actuality, that next level has just never been there for Khan.

 

His ring IQ is not terrible, however it is also not elite level. He has elite level hand speed and foot speed which has got him where he is. Obviously his biggest problem is that he's severly, debilitatingly, mandibly challenged.

 

He is just one of a few Boxers that can get by at the highest level with serious flaws in his game and his technique because he is gifted in other areas. His basic attack is really magnatized by his blistering speed. It stops people in their tracks. Other guys are massive at their weight, some have a crazy long reach,An iron chin, look at Wilder, without that power he is average and is certainly not a world champion. But he does have it and Khan has his speed.

 

Not against Brook because he took great shots from a middleweight puncher like GGG.

 

Khan has not got by at the highest level yet!

 

Brook and Broner are nowhere near Canelo`s level, neither are Breidis or Peterson, Garcia is a good counter puncher but has been beat.

 

The same was said about Kirkland Laing and he had a weak chin also and I don`t know if Khan could of beaten the Laing that beat Duran in `82.

 

Is he not a 2 weight world champion?
