These HW's today are just so incredibly massive/huge. Just freaks really.

I look at guys like Wlad and Joshua and they look like they belong in the circus. It's like WTF? Are these guys humans or some other species?

Look at him standing next to Carl Froch. Who was a normal sized SMW. No small dude. Actually Froch compared to the rest of the human population is bigger than average. Even compared to other Western Europeans Froch is still larger than the average man. Joshua is so ****en big here.

Can you imagine Joshua standing next to Lomachenko or Linares???

Wlad is retired. So is Vitali. So is Valuev.

Joshua is basically the largest of the heavyweights right now. Wilder is an inch taller but about 30 pounds lighter.

In that regard, the heavyweight division is actually getting smaller than it was at the beginning of the decade.

Valuev was a half a foot taller and 60 pounds heavier than Joshua.

Valuev was softer than those guys. Vitali, Joshua and Wlad were huge and lean. Very rare and bizarre.

It's been like this since 2003............The only real anomaly was Nicolai Valuev but aside from that I think we have reached a 'critical mass' where being much bigger will probably be a hinderance to them.

Valuev was over the limit for size as a human boxer.

Too big to get around the ring and chase his man down. Couldnt throw more than 10 punches a round. Was very limited. Was an interesting freak show though in the beginning.

Valuev was actually the only guy his size that found any success. And get got a lot of help from the judges and hand picked opponents.

I actually think they're not that big at all.
There have been much bigger heavyweights already (6'10"+), but besides Valuev they weren't good enough to win a belt.

    It’s called steroid use.

    Only ******s don’t recognize it.

The proportions are usually attainable, but not at 6’6” or whatever.

People see similar muscle proportions on their 5’8” friend and think “oh. I guess that’s no big deal.” But at 6’6” the sheer quantity of mass needed is another story.

My favorite was seeing AJ’s bicep next to Parker during their fight.

    The size difference was laughable.

Yes, Valuev was much softer and not very muscular. Vitali, while lean, also didn't have the muscules of Joshua or Wlad.

Like another poster said, Joshua is the only freakishly huge and muscular HW in the sport at the moment. Wilder is a stringbean, and actually weighed in as a cruiserweight in his last fight; Fury isn't cut in the least, and could probably come in under 240 if he really trained his arse off. Parker is just a solid guy who happens to be quite tall; Povetkin is an average sized HW; Ortiz is a stocky old man with an old man's body.

Take Joshua out of the equation and the HW division isn't that huge at all. Just a lot of big, fat men and ripped smaller dudes, the way it's always been.

    Two things:

    1. There are heavyweights and then there are the rest of the smaller, lighter boxers who participate in the sport. That is why P4P is so ridiculous. Even a #50 ranked heavyweight would defeat a Canelo or GGG or Mayweather.
    2. Living in the U.S. we see average college and NFL linemen in addition to NBA players who are BIGGER than Lewis, Klitschko, Fury, Deontay or Joshua. . . . so its not an oddity to see athletes getting bigger, faster and stronger.
