Never knew this was out there. The highlights of the '73 Hererra - Martinez fight. Shows all 5 knockdowns and the stoppage in 2 minutes. There is also a longer 6 minute version out there but this was so cool between two awesome bantamweights. Enjoy.

I watched this the other week, gave me even more appreciation of both fighters. Oh and that uppercut from Herrera.

Oh, I saw it that too. So short and so sweet. The type of punch that makes you want to applaud.

RC, actually, not to nitpick, but this was indeed their second fight. They engaged in a 12 rounder prior to this one, which was also won by Herrera but by decision. They fought 3 times in all.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed it...I've always been a "Herrera-ite"...hated seeing him lose...

Herrera! What a bolt of lightning! As with many fighters, they had their ebb and flow moments.
Told Red Cobra that I thought Herrera could beat Oliverez after seeing him against Martinez.
Picked the paper up and, on page 4 was a write up on Herrera's stoppage: Oliverez on the canvass spitting blood with Herrera being hoisted on the shoulders of the crowd wearing a sombrero and blowing kisses to the crowd.
Herrera: perhaps the only fighter I've ever seen with a 'triple left hook'! OMG!

Well called brother. It was a brave man who picked against the undefeated Olivares

Cheers scar, awesome stuff. Herrera really was an excellent fighter, a lovely punch-threader at his best. Like Al said, his uppercut was something else. He actually reminds me quite a bit of Macias in style, although a shade better and more durable. He just couldn't establish a a dominant run because of similarly excellent fighters around him with similar ability. Pinder, Chucho, Martinez etc. He was unlucky too in the rubber match with the stoppage, especially as it was the same ref as here who let both of them take real punishment without calling things off.

Martinez likewise was a fine fighter at his best, very underrated. Amongst others he has the supposedly legitimate points win over Borkhorsor, who was a monster and had given Herrera a real pasting only to be robbed on the cards. A brilliant win for Zarate later on.
