He rode a massive wave from 2003 until 2009 and then kind of abruptly went downhill thereafter.

The Cotto fight was a high water mark from him. And then after he never remotely looked the same.

A lot of fighters will be in decline and then randomly pull out a great performance past prime. Duran against Barkely comes to mind. Or even Morales against Pacquiao.

But for some reason Pac had an abrupt halt to his destruction after 2009.

My theory is it's the weight first of all. 147 was far from 122 and 126 where he was most dominant physically. Second was all the wars he had. Just look at the first Morales fight. It was an absolute grueling fight. People often forget just how much punishment prime Pacauiao took pretty much every fight. I think third was the age factor. Pac was already 30 years old against Cotto.

It's weird to see a puncher of all a sudden no longer have no power. The speed and workrate decline is expected, but what about the power.

And I really doubt it was PEDs. First there is no circumstanstial evidence. Second even if Pac was on PED why would he stop after Cotto?

Lots of factors.. Weight changes, Age, Brutal wars.. That stuff takes a toll on a fighter.

Ariza and PEDs. HBO gave their “old and deteriorating” excuse after JMM 2. Then all of sudden out of nowhere, David Diaz fight happens then Pac is back and better than ever. Also his decline was after Margarito. Not Cotto.

It happened after the Margo fight. There was a rumor going on that Pacman was peeing blood after the fight.

He won at a tremendous cost to his body plus he was a pro fighter for close to 20 years by that time. He didn't exactly have a "hit dont get hit" fight style.

The Margarito fight was definitely a factor. But it was also the fact that with age he was getting more skill and declining in athleticism. JMM 4 seemed like a resurgence of his old form but that was quickly snuffed out.

It seemed to me that Manny was not as disciplined after the Margarito fight. I consider that fight the high water mark of his discipline, conditioning and career.

As far as KO’s go, he went up in weight, was fighting bigger guys, and stopped knocking guys out. Happens to everyone. There is no reason to invent extra reasons for it.

    Tell y'all what...

Take any existing lightweight and have him fight the 165 pound Margarito that Pac fought and let's see if said lightweight comes out the same after.

He started talking about retiring, was saying things like "I've accomplished everything I wanted to in boxing", and got serious into politics.

Pacquiao was much more determined and vicious against Cotto. When he fought Margarito he was unable to knock him down. He didn't press for the KO and he slowed his workrate as the fight went on. Which were 3 things you never associated with Pac before the Cotto fight.

Somewhat so I guess. But his style and effectiveness for that matter too abruptly changed after Cotto. And then more so after Margarito.

He threw 1000 punches and broke his orbital socket. He was juiced to his eyeballs. It’s common sense. Then the next fight he looked like utter **** against Bradley conveniently when Ariza left. He got tired. Could only fight for one minute a round. GTFOH lmao

It’s plain as day that idiot was on some form of PEDs. You guys cry about cheating and corruption all day. Manny was a corrupt mf’er and he also abused toradol shots to numb pain for fights. I’m surprised he gets passes.

Pacquiao looked to the ref to stop the fight against Margarito. He would have never done that before the Cotto fight.

Uh, Ariza was w/ Pac for the first Bradley fight. Pac fought conservatively because Bradley was a young, prime, hungry lion, and had caused fight changing headbutts to many opponents prior. Ariza was also there for the Bradley rematch.

    Check facts before trolling?
