More or less of a joke than Spike would've been?

(just so we have it clearly established for when Canelo fights Spike in September)

    Well lets do the math..

Golovkin's lay off is 8 months fighting a SWW journey man/contender with no fights in 2 years, unranked at SWW up until he signed to fight GGG and unranked at MW, who has never fought at MW, who hasn't won a fight in years.

Canelo's lay off is one year, just had knee surgery, was likely extremely distracted by the media frenzy about his supposed PED use may fight O'Sullivan, a popular journey man/contender who is a career MW in Canelo's second fight at MW who is ranked #5 by the WBO.

I would say both are not very intersting fights at all, but after a year off, knee surgery, a softer touch is called for to make sure all the screws are tight.

That's a fresh new take from you.

Do you have any thoughts on Andre Ward?

Claiming the additional 4 months off is "more of an excuse" is as much a pedantic reach as if somebody were to make the counterargument that any inherent advantage Golovkin has by ending his layoff 4 months earlier is mitigated by Canelo being 9 years his junior and smack in his prime, and thus more able to rebound from injuries/layoffs with minimal to no decrease in form compared with an older fighter. :deal:

    • Gennady Golovkin -2500
    • Vanes Martirosyan +1000
These are the betting odds. Does this mean that I can bet $100 and win $1000 if Vanes wins?

1 year off, knee surgery, rest and recovery, strengthening, media frenzy related to failed tests, shaking ring rust off. I would say it is very reasonable that someone who has been off for one year, who is coming out of surgery should make sure all the nuts and bolts are tight before going into the biggest fight of their life.

GGG fighting Martirosyan? Yeah you can make an argument that its a last minute replacement, but it completely reeks of coddling. I surprised HBO approved a fight like that.

So by this logic, "1 year off, knee surgery, rest and recovery, strengthening, media frenzy related to failed tests, shaking ring rust off" is a potent enough cocktail of circumstance to excuse a dead-center-prime elite middleweight taking on what most consider to be a B level fringe contender with above-average power but nothing else whose losses have come to an elite and one...er, not quite elite - substantially more than an eight month layoff excuses a middleweight nine years older and having already displayed signs of decline taking on a large 154lber that for several years was ranked among the elite, and has only lost to elites, and who might be exiting his prime years but is four years the junior in this match-up?

If we're going to get that granular and pull up every single excuse plant by the roots, I'm not sure the garden on Canelo's side of the fence is all the more bountiful.

See as you've only worshiped cash cows who get everything they ask for, you aren't aware the steps those in the position of vanes have to go through for title shots. There was an opportunity and he took it.

Looks like Gennadivich will be dropping the only belt he ever won in the ring from a champ. Full credit to him if he takes this fight , but i don't see it happening.

They haven't posted an over/under for rounds but I'd take the over. I think Martirosyan will still be standing after 12 rounds but I'll be shocked if he wins more than 1 or 2 rounds. If he was afraid to open up against Andrade (a guy he dropped BTW); I don't see him going for broke against GGG.
