This content is protected I feel Ward`s performance in this fight is one of the most underrated performances of all time, can you name me abetter performance at light heavy? I would of loved to see Ezzard Charles v Ward, but people will disagree with me here and go on about low blows! So is Ward one of the most underrated fightes in history? Also can someone explain to me why?!
It's a massive grey area. I'm not even sure Ward would survive against fighters like Bob Satterfield, let alone beat fighters like Bob Foster, Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore etc.
Hells no, Ward would get lit up. Kovalev was beating him worse than the first fight until a combination of Ward's low blows and a limited fuel tank put an end to it. That was in no way an impressive performance. The only impressive thing was Ward's excellent conditioning and his grit. He was getting beaten up, otherwise.
Lets forget the controversy for a minute and Ward was losing in alot of peoples opinion before the foul.
Ward is overrated.Very good and skillful, but far from "the best in history".Ward is not even better than best LHWs of our time. Ward<Bivol, at least compared to their fight against Barrera(that version that knocked out the cuban will became even better in next fights cuz Bivol is still unexperienced in prof).Sullivan became better fighter after the fight against Ward, but was brutally knocked out by Bivol. Barrera landed 111 punches against experienced Ward, and his better version landed only 75 against young still learning Bivol.Ward landed 166, Bivol 243.What we have? Ward vs Barrera - 166 vs 111. Bivol vs Barrera - 243 vs 75
His body work was slowing him down, eventually Kov gassed that`s why the right hand put him in trouble in the first place.
Foster offered his head to the bad guy when he jabbed by over commiting and leaning in, Ward would punish him when he did that. This content is protected
I like Ward a lot, but the light heavyweight division is really weak compared to the past. Qwai, Michael Spinks, Archie Moore, Billy Conn, and Moorer would all embarrass Ward. Ward's resume is highly overrated at 175. Ward beat Kovalev twice, which were good wins, but in all honesty despite Kovalev's power he was always one dimensional. Ward avoided a fight with Stevenson, who in my opinion is a much more dangerous opponent than Kovalev ever was even at 40.
Moorer was far more one dimensional than Kov at light heavy, Ward would of toyed with double M at light heavy, he had no defense, and only really developed fundamentals at heavy where unfortunately he had no chin, but even at light heavy Moorer wouldn`t have been able to take the right hand that first put Kov in trouble, Moorer was hurt badly by Swindell who was a bum.
