On another thread you’re defending Jack Dempsey for not fighting at all for three years while champion. SMFH.

Is that your rule? Or are you just making it up as you go along? You must make decisions based on the truth. The man had some health problems and it took him some time to sort out. He didn' t choose that. Did you lose your job when you got sick? When he was ready he took on a top ranked challenger. He lost the title fair and square.

The reason why Frazier gets a
"Pass" or not that much grief about it is because he did clean out the division from the 67-71. He beat most if not all of the contenders he needed to..including Ali In a legendary fight. Joe was proven the goods. He earned it in the ring!!!

Foreman really failed in this one. His brute strength and brutality approach exposed him as a hype. The ref should have stepped in to save Frazier. He should have insisted that Foreman not hit so hard and that he use a jab. SMH. Boxing died when George was just allowed to knock Joe out like that. :ohno Big fail.

Nope I'm not defending him at all.I've many times stated he should have fought Wills all I've done is point out Frazier avoided his 2 outstanding challengers for 2 years and instead defended against 2 unranked no hopers.
On that thread you asked which other champions did not defend their titles for 3 years and I gave you 2 examples Willard and Louis, you did not reply .Now you peep over the parapet, snipe at me and disappear again.lol

It isn't my rule ,it's just a fact! Frazier was well enough to make a tour with a rock and roll band and he was well enough to defend his title against 2 unranked patsies If he was well enough to do that he was well enough to fight a ranked contender, If I was out sick, absent from work it wouldn't impact on anyone else .Not defending against deserving ranked contenders for 2 years obvioulsy does!Ridiculous comparison!
Cleaned out the division 67-71 ?
    Liston 6 , 8
    Urtain 9
    Patterson 7,10, 5
    Cooper 6
    Norton 10,9
    Garcia 10,8,10
    Corletti 8
    Martin 7,4
    Lyle 4
    Bugner 10,9
    Foster 5,5
    Jones 8
    Peralta 10
    Mildenberger 9
    Lewis 9
    Roman 7
    Terrell 6,10
    There's a few he didn't clean out.

But it’s not two years. Frazier was back in the ring 10 months after Ali, then he had two “tune ups” within a five month period. Then a break of no longer than normal before facing his #1 contender Foreman.

Who were the two “outstanding contenders” Frazier was avoiding for 22 months? A guy who joe already beat ten months before and an untested Olympic prospect who was too high in the rankings?

It's 2 years without fighting a ranked contender YES OR NO? The outstanding contenders were Ali number 1 and Foreman number 2 it's that simple! I'd say Foreman proved he wasn't ranked too high when he got Frazier in the ring!

Oh yes, I agree with that part that is why it was a result that was met with so much astonishment. Poor Howard Cossel sounded like he was having a seizure. He couldn’t stop saying “Down goes Frazier!”. That’s how surprising it was.

Ultimately Frazier had been riding high on a reputation he could no longer produce. Nobody could forecast this but it adds up when you read into it.

No it is not two years without fighting a ranked contender. There is 22 months between Joe fighting Ali and Foreman rather than the minimum of 24 required in order for it to be 2 whole years.

Two months is 60 days. Remember, The World was created in 6.

Pedantry, the last refuge of the man trying to defend an indefensible position.
