Prime for prime ,the best of both men .The Bowe that ripped the belt from Holy field, going up against Witherspoon that troubled Holmes and beat Page ? A good big heavy clash.
Witherspoon got hit with less punches in those fights than Bowe did v Holy and Tim had to evade Larry`s jab and even at that stage Holmes jab was better than Bowe`s was v Holy, too many times Bowe came inside against the shorter man when he should of use his reach advantage, Tim`s fundamentals were far better than Bowe`s, but Riddick`s power could save him here. I don`t think Bowe would of fought him though unless he was a challenger because once Bowe became champ he only fought bums while dodging Lewis and only fought Holy again because he had already beat him.
In agreement. I think Spoons style of fighting mixed in with his solid chin could take Bowe to a places he's uncomfortable with. And I'm talking the Holmes fight version. I think Riddick finds him self out of his comfort zone here and loses by decision.
This. Witherspoon could blow hot and cold but when he was on form he was dangerous to anybody. That, and I don't rate Bowe as highly as other do.
I’m not sure Bowe was really above that level of fighter. Greg Page, Witherspoon, Berbick, Thomas didn’t get to fight for an undisputed heavyweight championship against an old school puffed up cruiserweight.
If we are picking them at their very best, which for Bowe was about two fights ( Holyfield 1 ), you have to pick Bowe likely on points. Bowe wasn't hard to hit, had issues with good jabbers, and did not face many power hitters. Witherspoon could hit, had a good jab, and defense. So he's a very live underdog in this one.
That's why I'd be confident picking Spoon ,he'd be cracking him with the jab ,I can see Bowe taking the shots well but the accumulated punishment takes its toll .
The best Bowe is clearly the more dangerous and better fighter. Not above Witherspoons level? He beat Holyfield twice! H2H he was on ATG level which Witherspoon was not. And no, Larry Holmes wasn´t dominant in each of his fights. Difference between Bowe and Holmes simply is power here.
Always difficult isn't it? They are such common suffixes... Witherspoon (of the Holmes fight...) Bowe (of Holyfield...) Almost as bad as the most common one (Douglas of Tokyo). The OP asked for Prime, not Peak. The problem with these particular heavies, is that we judge them by thier very peaks. But that's natural, suppose.
It is and I get your meaning. A lot of the time especially with such as these two ,a certain fight stand s out when they particularly impressed. We could say Bowe s best fight was Holy 1,or was it Seldon or even Donald !.With Douglas ,is there any other performance as good as Tokyo ,,can't say that was his prime for certain though can we .
I think Tim at his best, pulls out a close one. Bowe definitely going to get his shots, but, personally, Tim has a better chin, and that helps him in those tight spots.
