This is a dream match up in my opinion. Both use angles amazingly well. Who does it better against one another we can only imagine. I believe Loma actually can use the angles better and time Pac and catch him more often and be more adaptable. Pac would have a power advantage and constant onslaught. I think it would be a war going to close decision with some of the most amazing boxing one can witness.
He’s fought bigger punchers and faster fighters. Both in the Olympics and the pros. What exactly is unique about Pac that he hasn’t seen before?
You must be new to boxing right? Pacquiao had no amateur experience and was just a kid, Loma on the other hand had tons of fights was regard as a "god" as soon as he turn pro because of all his amateurs fights that's why they rush him in against the old shot but experience Salido... Plz don't compare if you don't know the history mate...
I tried to think of a coherent reply to this thread but I broke down in bitter, frustrated tears. Too difficult to call. Lomachenko could perhaps beat any boxer who ever lived in terms of skill, but we simply haven't seen how he fares against someone as aggressive and busy and talented as Pacquiao. Lomachenko can be hit, and we have almost no idea how good his chin is. Pacquiao would surely catch him with some clean shots. Lomachenko isn't going to bother Pacquiao with single shots, and for every big punch Loma throws, he's going to have to avoid one. If Lomachenko can keep doing what he does for twelve very, very demanding rounds, he can win this. But if he loses focus, it'll be too hard to get back into the fight. My head says Pacquiao is too much for him late on, and takes it by a couple of points. But if someone bumps this in a couple of years, let's all reconsider. Halfway through typing that paragraph I decided actually Loma will keep him at bay and will outbox him for a four-point victory. This is too hard. A dream match-up that we'll never see.
Pacquiao has hurt and/or dropped every single guy he's ever fought including iron-chinned guys who are much bigger. Loma won't be 15-20 pounds heavier than Pacquiao and Pacquiao will actually enjoy a size advantage. The few times Marriaga connected, Loma seemed bothered. JMM walked through brimstone and fire. Floyd, who's much bigger, and defensive-minded w/ an ATG defense, was countered badly twice and hurt. We're talking about a Prime Pacquiao that will happily eat shots from Loma to get his in. Loma ain't surviving those left hands.
Actually I wasn't thinking in terms of size. I prefer to imagine these hypothetical bouts at a magical catch-weight that suits both fighters perfectly. Otherwise, what's the point? Was Mayweather hurt? Debatable. But anyway, that wasn't prime Floyd nor prime Manny so it's irrelevant. I think we'll continue to get an idea of just how good Lomachenko is over the next year, and this month's fight will be a great point to apply some hindsight. As I said, I am kind of drawn to Manny for this one, but post-Salido I feel like we're watching the evolution of boxing in Loma. People on here talk about how 1970s boxers couldn't compete with 2000s boxers. Maybe in Loma we're seeing the point where earlier boxers would struggle against the modern breed. (I don't actually buy this by the way, but I do think in Loma we're seeing the beginning of a new style of boxing. Fifteen year olds now will be trying to emulate him, as they try to emulate Lionel Messi.)
Pac isn’t even retired and we’re already looking at him with rose coloured glasses. There was a brief period where Pac looked unbeatable, was a beast (Hatton, Cotto, DLH). Let’s not pretend that he was some unbeatable beast earlier on, he was in close fights constantly (albeit against top competition, can’t say the same for Floyd). Lomachenko is obviously light years ahead of Pac in technical ability and skills, if Pac couldn’t knockout all his contemporaries I think it’s a bit illogical to assume that a defensive master who has never been hurt in Lomachenko would just get knocked out by Pac. That’s just fantasy talk. People who know boxing and are honest understand the gap between Loma and Pac.
Castillo beat Floyd. Maidana-Mayweather I was a draw at best for Floyd. Faded De La Hoya ran Floyd close. Pacquiao beat Mayweather (even Lomachenko thinks this). Cotto-Mayweather was a close fight (but clear win for Floyd). Loma has looked like a BEAST, but his resume is hollow. Do you think he runs through Death Row (Pacquiao, JMM, Morales, Barrera) unscathed and looking untouchable like he has been?
Floyd is the most overrated fighter in the history of the sport. I don’t think Pac beat Floyd but I think he would have a few years earlier. Yes I think Lomachenko runs through death row and looks unbeatable. The more technically skilled a fighter the more Lomachenko is going to demonstrate the distance between his skills and the next man. He beat Rigo and GRJ on skills.
