Jones by UD, unless GGG finds that crack in RJJ's chin, and really pours it on at the critical moment.
Both of them are/were great fighters, but GG being unbeaten shouldn't really influence anyone's opinion on a H2H match up with Roy. What elite fighters has he beaten at MW? Only Canelo in a hard fought fight. Analyse their skillsets and their styles, and then envisage them fighting. GG's strengths: Possesses great power Great at cutting the ring off Has a great chin Can apply patient pressure GG's weaknesses: Very easy to hit Marks up Roy's strengths: Possessed great power Possessed incredible speed Had a great variation of shots Had a great, unorthadox defence due to his unique reflexes Roy's weaknesses: Chin I love both guys, but I'd simply have to have favoured Roy. That's not to say GG couldn't have beaten him, but in my honest opinion, Roy would had to have been a big favourite. Roy had a reach advantage, and he'd have had a huge speed advantage. Kell Brook showed how vulnerable GG is to a guy with speed. Yes, GG ate up those shots before grinding him down. Yes, he was never in trouble. But that was a WW with a 69" reach, firing in fast combos and snapping his head back. This was Roy at 30, up at LHW: https://imgur.com/gallery/dkADuyL I just can't see how GG could have overcome Roy's speed.
Roy Jones junior for me. I,ve only seen two fighters with the ability Roy had. Him and Muhammad Ali both at their peak. Both guys don't get the credit they deserve for their ability...probably because like always if somethings too good its probably time to take them down a peg or two. I still say both we,re the closest thing to supernatural you,ll ever see in a boxing ring. It was like they knew what the opponent was going to do before they even attempted it. Hence why most opponents didn't have a clue how to go about beating them. Ali picked the rounds he was gonna win in. And Roy kind of looked like he could have picked them as well if he wanted too. Both slipped massively but at his best...i can't see anyone current day touching Roy.
Have you seen Robinson? He’s slow and ponderous compared to Jones. He fought in a different time. And that’s keeping in mind that Robinson was a much smaller guy. Robinson wasn’t even a middleweight, guys like Hagler and Monzon would have beaten him, never mind a Roy Jones.
Ray was great. Certainly not slow or ponderous, even in comparison to Roy. But yes, he was smaller and his peak was at WW. I'd have loved to have seen Ray vs Marvin. Marvin wasn't a big MW. He used to weight in below 160 in the days of same day weigh-ins.
I have never understood the admiration for Ali’s ability. I see nothing exceptional about him. You compare him to cruiserweights now and he just looks like a sloppy B grade Usyk.
I feel like Marvin would be the sort of guy who would purposely not refeed on weigh in day just to make life harder for himself. A mean man who was angry and wanted to suffer more than anyone else. I don’t think we’ve seen his level of toughness and determination since.
You can maybe make a case for that after his lay off. But before it...if you can't see greatness in there I don't really know what to say mate. Guy was like poetry in motion. You see guys and say good footwork or good offence or good upper body/head movement etc etc. But rarely do you see guys that do it all at the same time. Its an odd thing to say but everything worked in tandem with Ali. Was like he was born to box. Unbelievable ability. Roy was similar at his best.
