    Really?

    What about his speed, timing and reflexes etc?

    His footwork was great in his prime.

    He also possessed great heart and toughness.

    Marvin had traits that couldn't be taught or manufactured. But I don't agree about him not rehydrating. He just wasn't that big.

    I look at it in context. He was a cruiserweight against guys who were slow and didn’t have much boxing ability. In Ali’s time very big guys just ran to get fit, and went into the ring throwing punches until a knockout came. Ali was different in that he incorporated some movement inspired by Robinson, that was revolutionary at the time but that’s indicative of the state of the game, not Ali’s ability. That was him relative to his opponents, today Ali would be nothing.

    When you’re up against unsophisticated plodders then you’re going to look like Willie Pep in comparison.
    Great heart and toughness, sure. Everything else about him was a standout for the time, but today he is nothing special at all.

    He didn't just fight unsophisticated plodders though did he.

    Nothing special?

    He would be a huge threat to any of today's CW's and HW's.

    Not for his time, they didn’t know anything about physical preparation. Ali had natural athleticism and he emulated light weight boxers (as did Tyson) so he used movement that others didn’t. So it was opponents that were at a low level, not that Ali was exceptional.
    Today Ali might be a paper titlist at cruiserweight.

    Agree with all of this. Toney would eat him up too though

    I see RJJ picking GGG off at his will, GGG will march him down and RJJ is nowhere to be found.

    Roy was very durable as a middleweight and possesed the very tjing that would have troubled GGG....SPEED! Not to forget the power, foot speed, athletism and reflexes he had in that time period, I think it's safe to say Roy by decision.

    Takes a real special fighter with physical advantages to beat Jones at 160 lbs.

    Golovkin is easy work for Jones.
    120-108 in a fight where Golovkin lands nothing of significance.
    Jones quickness, speed, and reflexes were insane at that weight.

    Roy vs GGG (with VADA testing)

    Speed = GGG
    Power = GGG
    Chin = :risas3:
    Stamina = GGG

    Roid (aka prime Roy) vs GGG (no VADA)

    Speed = Roid
    Power = still GGG but much closer
    Chin = :risas3:
    Stamina = Roid

    Lesser people than Golovkin managed to land on Jones. I think that Golovkin won't give Jones enough space to do his thing and that he may have a decent chance to crack that chin. However I fully acknowledge that Jones at 160 was special (some say peds) and that he'd give GGG all he could handle. Jones winning? No surprise. And there's very few MW's in history that I'd say that about.

    Have to favour RJJ. One he was a huge middleweight he'd have a clear weight advantage to go with advantage in speed. RJJ was also a huge puncher at middleweight hit as hard as GGG, hell maybe harder, he sparked guys out cold at 160lbs. Golovkin's porous defence could cost him here, taking a flush right hand from Canelo won't be the same as a flush right hand from RJJ.

    Golovkin is great at cutting off the ring but RJJ is one of the most elusive middleweights ever and his unorthodox style may very well be very problematic for the very orthodox and well schooled GGG. Canelo's defensive skills and movement saw their fight fought far more often in the centre of the ring than GGG is used to, I can only assume RJJ with his greater speed, elusiveness, height, reach would see Golovkin struggle to keep RJJ on the ropes as he likes to do. He couldn't do it consistently to Canelo, why would he do better vs RJJ in this regard?

    RJJ by clear UD.
