Roid had a glass chin as it turned out. He was caught with roids in Indiana for sure.....................don't know how good he would have been without the roids...............
Roids dont give you the boxing skill or ring IQ that Roy had. If steroids enhanced skill, everyone would be fighting like an ATG as these drugs gets better every year and harder to detect.
No, but it sure as hell amplified it. More power, faster and better stamina... that's pretty important.
Every accomplishment is mitigated by the fact that he was a PEDS cheat. Anyone who does not get that is in denial.
Yes and no. He had a lot of flaws but also a lot of gifts and some world class tools. He got away with a lot of mistakes due to his natural ability. Why he got KOd so often in his later years. But even in his last fight he showed above average athleticism. Even at 50, Jones could move like no other.
That just means everyone’s career is questionable then as most Star boxers will have used something to enhance their performance going back as far as Robinson’s day. It’s not quite like Lance Armstrong suddenly beating everyone as Boxing is so much about skill to begin with and Roy Jones had that in spades regardless of PEDs.
Excellent reflex fighter, the best ive seen in that department ever. Chin wasn't an issue prime, and that's what he should be judged on like every other fighter. The major problem is, you cant really truly rate his performances down to his blatant ped abuse.
Jones v Calzaghe both prime and I would say Joe would be the man to push him maybe outpoint him. Fast accumulation fighter with a great chin and engine. Also Joe looked physically naturally stronger in there and all being clean as a whistle too. Calzaghe is missed over here, welsh or not . Great fighter from the valleys !
